"Here's the latest on Yoenis Cespedes, who was officially declared a free agent last week...

"We are aware of the [Spring Training] dates," said agent Adam Katz to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. "We expect him to be in camp with one of the clubs." Katz also called the market for Cespedes "meaningful and aggressive."
The Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Orioles, and Tigers are five of the six clubs that have been in serious talks with Cespedes, reports ESPN's Jim Bowden. He is expected to travel to the United States in the next 7-10 days for face-to-face meetings.
Baseball America's Jim Callis said he would rank Cespedes in the 7-15 range of their top 100 prospects list, and that he would take over as the top prospect of pretty much any team that signs him."(MLBTR)

I'm not particularly high on the idea of signing him, but if he were signed I would assume Reimold would DH everyday. Reynolds would have to play third and Davis would play first base. So most days the lineup would be:

2B Antonelli
RF Markakis
CF A. Jones
3B Reynolds
C Wieters
DH Reimold
LF Cespedes
SS Hardy
1B Davis

Bench: Andino, Teagarden, Miller, Chavez

O'Day, Simon, Strop, Wada, Phillips, Patton, Johnson

Guthrie
Hunter
Britton
Chen
Arrieta

25 man roster^ That's how I would do it with the players we have, wish Chavez wasn't there. And Gregg will be on the team at Phillips or Patton's expense. But there is also Wilson Betemit in the mix, well if we sign Cespedes then that makes the decision to sign Betemit an even dumber one cause there is no room for him. I also think Eyre is good enough to be in the bullpen. I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to be happy with the opening day roster.

If we signed Cespedes he would play in minors.

I don't see him signing anything less than a major league deal, he's 26 years old and I think he will be treated the same way as players who come over from Japan.

"Just a few days ago they said the Red Sox didn't have the payroll to add anyone"

They just traded Scutaro to Colorado to free up a chunk of money. Not enough to bring in Jackson but much more than a drop in the bucket.

"The Korean Baseball Organization is displeased by the Orioles' signing of 17-year-old lefty Seong-Min Kim to a minor league deal because of his age and is threatening to petition Major League Baseball, according to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun. Orioles GM Dan Duquette said he doesn't understand the complaint, as Kim and his family were both in favor of the move, and he is closer to 18 than to 17."(MLBTR)

<Boohoo suck it KBO.

South, this was the statement made when they announced the deal:

“We are glad to sign a player that our scouts feel is one of the top amateur left-handed pitchers in South Korea,” Orioles executive VP of daseball operations Dan Duquette said in a statement. “Kim has an excellent curveball and very good control.”

1:09pm: Edwin Jackson has multiple three-year offers, but clubs are being told that the free agent right-hander is much more likely to sign a one-year deal than a multiyear contract, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports. The Orioles like Jackson and have made him an offer, but Connolly suggests it won't be enough to sign him.

The Orioles would consider a four-year deal for Jackson, though they seem more comfortable with a three-year deal that includes a fourth option year, Connolly writes. If Jackson seeks a one-year deal, Baltimore would seem to be an unlikely destination given its hitter-friendly park, remote chances of contending and division.

The O's are always linked to top free agents in the game but never sign them, aka there motto "were in the running or "we like to watch them workout"

I wouldn't be shocked to see the Orioles go after either Ross Detwiler or John Lannan from Washington. Detwiler is out of options and Lannan has decent career peripherals. His W-L isn't that great but he's been on some bad teams. I'd trust either of those more than Matusz.

"The Orioles have agreed to sign left-hander Casey Fossum to a minor league deal, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweets. Fossum, 34, last pitched in the Major Leagues with the 2009 Mets. He spent the 2010 season in Japan, before posting a 6.56 ERA in 35 2/3 innings at Triple-A in 2011. Orioles general manager Dan Duquette selected Fossum in the first round of the 1999 draft when he was Boston's GM."(MLBTR)

More of that minor league depth stuff or "hey old friend I'll give you a job and see what you have left."

I understand adding depth to the team, but how players has DD added to the roster, invites, etc, that haven’t played MLB in years. Don't get me wrong I like the surplus of signings, but some of these guys are border line laughable.

Will see if at least 2 or 3 of these guys can at least hack it on some level, let alone contribute on a regular basis to the MLB team

Don't hold your breath, but

I'm not sure which side you're on, but here it comes.

Adam Katz, the agent for Yoenis Cespedes, would only confirm earlier today that "several teams are involved" with the Cuban outfielder, who became a free agent last month. The Orioles are one of them, and executive director of international recruiting Fred Ferreira was scheduled to fly to the Dominican today to watch Cespedes work out.

The Marlins, White Sox, Cubs, Indians and Tigers also have been linked to Cespedes. It's not known whether the Tigers have decided to pass on him after signing Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214 million deal.

You must be referring to the Casey Fossum that has a career 5.45 ERA. This should be interesting just like the rest of our signings this offseason

Several reports recently have indicated the Orioles have been active in trade talks, but as of now, Duquette said nothing is coming close to fruition.

"Well, we are always looking for opportunities, but I don't know that we have any trade options that are really bubbling to the top right now."

Looks like the Nationals have come to terms with Edwin Jackson. We can take him off the wish list.

Man, the Nats are going to be a real joy to watch this year. I will probably be attending some of their games too. They have a nice ballpark. Went there last year. It's sad MASN will be turned to the Nats more than the O's this year.
