"No Okafur is not the exception. The entire Butler team were good students."
You're on drugs, scootie. Tell me ONE that matches Okafur's record. He graduated with honors (3.8 average) in three years. I didn't do the research, but I'd be really surprised if any Butler basketball player did that.
"As for Bucknell' bet they never saved a kid from the Philly streets either. "
So now you're changing the argument? Or are you just justifying Syracuse's (and UConn's, and...) basketball program?
I don't need to justify either the UCONN or Syracuse program - not everybody needs to be a brain surgeon or a straight A student or have 1400 SAT's to be a college athlete doing things the right way.
Go ahead and check Butler - the last two years they made the finals they had the highest combined GPA in the tourney
BOTH games last night had crazy endings!!
"not everybody needs to be a brain surgeon or a straight A student or have 1400 SAT's to be a college athlete doing things the right way"
Nobody said they did, scoot. But if you think these "student-athletes" at the top-tier programs are getting it done the same way other students are, you are delusional.
Take UConn or Syracuse....your pick. What are the average SATs of the basketball players vs. the average SATs of the student body as a whole. Samo-samo? I don't THINK so.
Do you think most SU alumni are pleased that Melo is out? As a fan, are YOU? If it were Bucknell, *I* would be. Heck, we had a baseball team that won the conference and a baseball player that batted .494, and we refused to send the team to the NCAA's because it was during finals week. [Full disclosure: I thought they were wrong]
HELLO TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE WEEKENDS OF THE YEAR!!!! Good luck to all my fellow Big East fans. Let's hope our conference has a better first weekend showin then last year!!
I actually picked Cuse to win it all in one of my brackets.
DON'T LET ME DOWN, BABY!!!!
Come on New colleges like Syracuse and UCONN readily admit that most of their players don't have the same SAT scores as the regular population and BTW this is true of Duke and even yes schools that don't have athletic scholarships
And you know something as long as they go to classes, it doesn't bother me. As a SU fan, Melo let the whole program down, but no he should not be playing
Basically the one and done rule is awful to the game - players should be able to come out straight from high school, but if they decide the college route it should be like football and they should be required to stay 3 years.
lol. I'm in about a million different pools and one of those guys who likes to fill out about a dozen different brackets. One is my "Pro Big East" bracket with Cuse winnin it, Marquette in the Final Four and Louisville in the Elite 8.
Also have one with Harvard in the elite 8, lol. We let my 2 year old son fill one out based on which school name he thought sounded cooler. He has Vandy beatin Kentucky in the final and Loyola in the Sweet 16 after a stunnin upset over Ohio St. tonight. Watch that one be the best of em all, lol.
OK this was kinda funny in the first half but it's time for your boys to step up, bro!! I gotta lotta brackets ridin on this!!!
"And you know something as long as they go to classes, it doesn't bother me. "
And you think they do??? Same requirements as other students? I don't. Maybe I am cynical or maybe you are naive.
How bad were you sweatin today?
Gotta couple brackets with only 1 loss!!
"WE'RE THE FREAKIN 9:20 GAME ON THURSDAY?!?!?!?!?!!
Well aint that a kick in the pants. Was really hopin to watch UCONN in the afternoon with a couple beers and then be fallin down drunk by that point of the night.......might have to readjust my plans, lol."
So far it looks like you should have gone with the plan of being drunk by gametime. Wait. Since I started to respond they have made a bit of a come back. But man how did they get in that deep of a hole? Disappointing.
