He's actually been quite serviceable. Certainly no major flubs. And how can you complain if he's hitting over .300? We've had enough awful offense at 2B in the last decade.

IMO you only trade him if Havens is knocking at the door and showing too much upside to ignore. He has steadily improved his defense and certainly has been more of an offensive + then a defensive -

Once Havens is ready, I don't think Murphy plays everyday. At least not on the Mets.

Will he ever be "ready" is the question? He needs to prove he can stay healthy first and then that he is an upgrade over Murph before you can really justify trading our second best hitter

I just don't see a guy with a .748 OPS who is a defensive liability playing everyday in the near future.

Well career he is a .778 OPS hitter ( which includes his poor 2009 campaign) And you do realize that positionally that is a relatively high OPS at 2nd right?

I would take Murphy anytime over "Slappy".

Murph has improved...he was a little slow covering first place in the 9th though, but thankfully was there for the tag.

murph has held his own. we can revisit trade talk during off season. right now, he stays. he has really worked at his 2b defense and it has paid off.

There are 3 players on this team I do not have to worry about; Santana, Wright, and Murph (I know, I am surprised too). He has played above my expectations and deserves 2nd full-time IMO for the foreseeable future.

"At what point, if any, does Murphy's defensive troubles at 2B become a liability? "

When and if they ever do. Just maybe they don't. Even more likely they don't outweigh the value of his hitting. Are you even being serious?

"His inability to turn double plays almost cost them this game though. Big late inning double play opportunities come up like that quite often."

How many games has he cost us? Maybe if he ever costs us ONE we can begin to talk. Your act is getting stale.
