There's only a hole at 1B because we have our first baseman playing right field instead. We have a perfectly competent glove there. His name is Chris Davis. It's pathetic that people have forgotten it.
He only started struggling at the plate after getting moved to his 3'rd different position, and seeing the bench a lot. When you don't know where (or even if) you're going to get penciled in every night, it's hard to stay in any rhythm. When he was an every day 1B, and even DH, he was killing the ball.
But Buck sacrificed all of that to try to accommodate Mark Reynolds. A huge mistake, and I can only hope the damage isn't irreparable. When hitters lose their rhythm/timing at the plate, it sometimes doesn't come back for a long time. He should put his ego aside and own up to the mistake, cut his losses, and get Davis back where he was comfortable. The offense was (much) better, the defense better, and the team playing better when he was in the lineup every day and playing 1B.
It's almost comical at this point every day I look at the lineup and see someone else playing 1B. "Almost". It would be if I didn't care so much about this team. Instead it's just sad.
