The Astros have picked up Brian Moehler's $3 million option for 2010. I am going to give the Astros a "1" for this one.

Kovie, two things should happen here:

1. Ed Wade should immediately be fired by the owner.

2. The panel should make an exception to the rule and allow negative points for this move.

I think the spirit of this scoring is to measure the attempt to improve his team rather than how much a particular GM has improved a team. While we may feel that Wade made no improvement to his team, he made what he thought was an attempt. If we feel it was a bad attempt, we can score him zero points, but I think you first decision was a good one. We should not give negative points.

Boy, the Astros sure hit the ground running! That would be like the Pirates excersicing an option on Virgil Vasquez.

You would probably give the Pirates a 5 for Vasquez. :-))

Yeah...more like a -5...I don't care if the option was for 300,000 or 3 million.

Some Brew Crew notes from MLBTR:

"Melvin feels that re-signing closer Trevor Hoffman early will aid the Brewers in attracting free agent starting pitchers. Melvin hopes to add two starters."

Why can't the Bucs add at least one FA starter?

"The Brewers view Rickie Weeks as their starting second baseman, which implies they'll let free agent Felipe Lopez leave."

Anyone have any interest in an aging Lopez for one of the middle infield positions?

He will be 30 in May of next year. He made 3.5 last year. Yes at that rate. Put the Andy to 2nd on hold for a year.

The Diamondbacks acquisition of Tony Abreu does not count, he is a minor leaguer.

And if he was a major leaguer, they would get a goose egg because he STILL wouldn't matter.
Even Chris Gomez was worth more than him.
