I'm not sure he actually lives in AZ...if he does, otherwise how can he explain calling Tempe "nice".
Tempe was "nice" when my parents lived there in the 80s...not now. It's a college/party town now...and it's much more run down. Most of the homes there were old to begin with - now they're just decrepit.
I know this guy that stayed in a Tempe hotel (close to Arizona Mills Mall) - telling me he basically feared for his life at night as he was always hearing gunshots.
Plus, some neighborhoods complained when blacks moved in (it's still predominantly white however). An acquaintance of mine who is a realtor told me in one Tempe neighborhood, they didn't even want a black realtor hosting an open house for his listing.
He was embarrassed to inform the other realtor...but he thought it more important to warn him for his own safety since the realtor was going door to door passing our flyers and such.
So, I guess it depends on what Theo's means by "nice."
