By "dont know what people are talking about" I mean to say that it's NOT going to be a political problem for him in November. Americans don't have the attention span for one thing. Secondly, according to polling data it's not even a big deal to Catholics at large. They are pretty well divided down the middle on the issue and that is a snapshot taken in the heat of the news cycle for this issue.

Reality is that the only people freaking out about this are religious zealots and opportunistic politicians. It's not going to affect the election in November at all, especially if the alternative to Obama is Rick Santorum. Honestly, the only thing better for the Democrats than a Gingrich nomination is a Santorum one.

They might try, but it's going to be difficult to excuse a 5+% loss with that kind of rhetoric. I don't see this upcoming election as being anything closer than that. Some Republicans are living in a bubble and still believe that everyone wants Obama gone like them. But many are starting to come to the realization that the president is getting into his stride, the economy is showing real signs of improvement, and that Obama is an absolute beast of a campaigner and fund raiser. The race is getting away from the Republicans already and it's not even spring.
