What is so interesting about it ?

He'll be 26 y.o. (not a kid) and is still in a learning curve. The only thing interesting to me is why Theo keeps obtaining unfinished products that are forced on the 40 man roster.

Hi Batman,

Thanks!! That was a good read!!! I'm hoping a change of scenery is beneficial for both Bowden & Byrd!! :o)

Whats interesting is that Theo was able to trade Byrd when he has no trade value lol.
THe fact they got anything in return is good

They trashed Theo because of the current team he left them.

And surprisingly-the Bo Sox supposedly have less pitching in their farm system than the Cubs.

And we all know how the Cubs minor league system is, pitching-wise.

Why is a below average relief pitcher forced on to the 40 man roster a good thing ?

All you need to know is we're paying all of Byrd's salary ....lol (not)

Unless you have the numbers on other teams, we have no idea how good or bad that number truly is.

That is true, it just struck me while I was reading the article that 7.6% success rate was extremely low. You are correct, I have no other data to compare that to, that may be a high percentage in drafting success....

Roughly 1/33, about 3% of the players drafted reach the majors so that is actually a good number.

Interesting, the article was about pitchers only, so that may be a high number for pitching prospects that are successful at the big league level, hard to say......

I know we ate some Byrd salary, but anything in return
is a plus and this kid has some promise, he may not pan
out, but it was still a great trade....The cubs saved face
for Byrd, saying they needed pitching, much better than
benching him or releasing him.....

Most of the people there trashing him are the same types that are on here trashing the Cubs every move.

It's not like we're trading for a guy that the RedSox wanted to keep. They were DFAing him.

So far, that has been Theo's "type" of move ----DFAs, Rule V risk, other team's leftovers, etc. etc.

Lotsa Red Sox fans are happy to see Bowden go, Some actually think they got the better of the Byrd deal.

I went on the BoSox site and I asked why they would trade for Byrd the way he is now.

One fan posted," Look , we know Byrd is garbage now, but we got him cheap and if you think Byrd looks bad hitting, wait til you see how Bowden looks pitching."

Apparently other BoSox fans agree.
