Yeah we didn't "need him" at all when our supposed cleanup hitter was hitting .150 and OPSing .500, and the all bat/not much of a glove 2b was OPSing .650, or when we were starting a catcher with a .400 OPS, and a CFer who was straddling the Mendoza line...nah we didn't need him at all.

In an effort to defend Wright I went after Reyes too hard. He was an exciting player for us.

The funny thing is, I don't consider myself a strong Wright supporter. If he let Citi get into his head to such a huge degree in 2009 that is not good for a professional. He DID seem to always come up short in big situations in 2010

But if he's attacked unfairly I'll defend the guy just as I will any other player

he is tired and has no protection on a dead team. for his sake i hope he gets traded to a real contender this november so he and we can see what he can really be. he needs to come in with a big contract demand and force a trade. the mets owners have zero loyalty to him, he needs to escape this mess. there are plenty of teans that will accept him with open arms. the mets should talk to david, get a list of teams he is willing to negotiate an extension with, and make their best trade with a 72 hr signing window. if they can sell this to david and finally publically admit they are rebuilding, and get a good prospect haul, they can keep fan backlash down. they have to get legit prospects for david tho, at least 3. this team is headed to last place, they need to go all in on rebuild. this dovetails with alderspin/wilpon plan to cut expemses save team for owners. i prefer they sell, they wont, this is the only way. once david goes, other pieces go. they should lower ticket prices with this, at least 10%, maybe not the premium seats but certainly the working class seats, say second tier and up.

the wilpons probably ordered the coach to tell david to swong with an uppercut for the fences, i wouldnt doubt it. i think jeff w. has quietly become the real gm again. alderson is overmatched. his great success was some 20yrs ago with the steroid boys mac and canseco. and dont tell me he or larussa didn't know what was going on.

I agree with you about going after Jose. He did a good job here but if someone is going to go after "my guy" then I'm going to go after "their guy". Childish? Immature? Emotional? Perhaps.

As far as defending Wright, all anyone can ask for is to be fair. But there a a couple that wait to crucify him at every turn for whatever reason, but didn't have much of a chance. Now that he's struggling a bit they are going overboard on every AB. It's insanity. It's also ignorant baseball.
