Talks with the FO were seen as contentious. No doubt they didn't want to be on the hook for the $35+ M Peyton was due in 2012. He probably had other ideas. But unless he takes a huge paycut, he may likely be done. Not helping was Andrew Luck looking really athletic at the combine. But Indy fans are daft if they think Luck will step in and the team not skip a beat. For every Andy Dalton, there's a half dozen Colt Mccoys and Tim Couchs. Just ask Cleveland. Plus the Dolts have other issues and it's going to be a rebuilding process. Even more the reason to part ways with Manning. This may be a win-win for all concerned. Peyton gets out before getting really hurt and Indy doesn't have to sunset his career.
Looking forward to the Bengals draft.... First of all, it's an absolute pipe dream that Bama RB Trent Richardson will be available to us round one. Obviously, if he is they should take him immediately. Regardless of what Ken Broo has opined. Otherwise, our most pressing needs are S and WR. If Alabama's Mark Barron is available with our first pick, they should take him. He's the premiere safety in the draft. Then look for either Alshon Jeffery (South Carolina) or Michael Floyd (Notre Dame) with the Carson Palmer 1a. (No more Coastal Carolinas, PLEASE!) They can either address RB through free agency or rounds 2 and 3. Not taking my advice to get a heavy hitter back to pick up 3rd and short, the braintrust should not overlook flashy Bearcat Isaiah Peade if available. He dominated in the Senior Bowl. This draft is relatively deep at CB and OL, both also needs, but could wait until middle rounds. We likely will get a 7th round compensatory pick for Jonathan Joseph. And, Uncle Mike is waaay under the salary cap dumping Palmer, so expect a number of free agent possibilities. AND we get a second #2 pick in 2013. Things are looking up for your Cincinnati Bengals IF they choose wisely.
