He's never really performed that well for that long in the minors, though. It worries me. Not to mention bringing him up to play 3 days a week is a bad idea for a guy still trying to figure things out.
This would all make sense if the plan was to DFA Loney. Sands takes over first base & Rivera goes back to being a sub in the outfield. If Jerry stumbles & falls, Rivera takes his spot at first.
Anyone know if Jerry has been playing any first base in the minors?
"...Which is what they are going to do though.... ..."
I hope not. But you're probably right.
That's 27 this year
Lifetime minors 156 games at first base

The Dodgers are still searching for the big bat. They didn't find it in Victorino or Ramirez (whatever else they may have found), and thus Sands returns to the majors. They are still also looking for the #2 pitcher, which they have also not found. Blanton looks to be a serviceable #4 or #5. What this goes to prove is that even when you have the money to spend such talents are not readily available.
What they now have is a good team, a playoff team (given the expansion), but they are far from a WS team. So, Sands looks good in AAA, and the Dodgers have to bring him up. He has some experience at 1st base, but no one has yet commented on the quality of his performance there.
