""33""

For some reason, I thought you were closer to my son's age. But you're at bit older.

Outside of giving some deserving guys a look at what their working hard for I don't see the point either. Take Pedros case. Sure he did well in Sept. . But pitchers hadn't seen him and didn't know what his weaknesses were. When they did his production dropped to almost nothing.

I vote no. An improvement over Cedeno but we could have done better.
Barmes is a .240 hitter with modest power and decent defense. Below average ML SS and at his age, I don't see him getting better. I hope he has a good year this year but he's not the answer LT.

Won't argue that Barmes isn't a long term answer, but he wasn't brought in for that purpose. He was signed to provide a better defensive bridge until a player in the minors can emerge, if one does.

He wasn't brought here for his offense.

I love the criticism that Barmes isn't the long term answer, Cedeno not only wasn't a long term answer, he wasn't a short term answer, he was never the answer to any questions in the past, he didn't even know what the question was. The only question Cedeno was the answer to was "Who made the worst decision you have ever seen while bunting?"

Agreed. Barmes is here because he's better than what we had. It's an improvement for the short term, and nothing more. It matters little to me that he's more expensive and his contract is for two years. The team is improved at the most important position on the field. What's not to like?

Agreed, I'm old school for a semi younger guy, I think just as many games are won and loss by how the middle of the field plays defensively as are by how good the middle of your line up is. We have had too many 4 and 5 out innings over the past 3 years because of our second and shortstop play. Walker has improved and will probably get even better because he still hasn't played 2nd very long.

If you are very good defensively at Catcher, Short, 2nd and CF it can mean as much as having a Pujols, Berkman, Molina type middle of the order.

"If you are very good defensively at Catcher, Short, 2nd and CF . . . "

It's been that way since the beginning, and will unlikely ever change. The Pirates are better up the middle defensively today than they were back in October because they've added Barmes and Barajas. It's anyone's guess how many runs they'll save, but I'd bet it'll add up to a handful of wins.

This guy, Barmes, stinks and should be fired immediately.
