I was 13, 14 years old. I was spending a couple of weeks at a baseball camp at Springfield College in Massachusetts. We lived in dorms and would spend time in the college bookstore, buying stuff (my roommate was actually stealing records from the store, which I didn't realize until one day he wasn't there anymore. However, he did have some great albums that we'd listen to at night).

Anyhow, I'm in the checkout line one day, when "Close to You" comes on the radio that was being played in the store. I'm in front of the cashier, who's a co-ed working there for the summer and I say something like, "That song suc.ks."

She says, "Do you have a girlfriend?" (Girlfriend??? I was 13 or 14: unless you consider magazine photos of Raquel Welch while I'm in the bathroom a date, no I didn't have a girlfriend). I tell her no and she says,

"When you get a girlfriend, she'll like that song."

Tonight, Beckett, like the Rangers, watch the Phillies and the Yankees.
