Yeah I hate parades too. I went to one about 5 years ago and it was so long I didn't stay for the whole thing. I guess these things are cool for kids, but as adults ehh. Definetely not worth sitting out in the heat for hours yesterday and dealing with the traffic at 11 at night. Wow I sound old.

There are always drunk FIBs at our parades so I guess they enjoy it. I didn't go down to the parade until I got done working, but that was just so I could meet up with friends and go out for lunch. Then I went to the fireworks and it was still gross and humid.

Red-shirting kindergartners was on 60 minutes...holding kids back a year to give them an advantage in life.

I question the value of it. And studies are inconclusive. But I don't question the irritation I feel at parents who are most serious about it for their kids. This is another sign to me that our society is coming to an end...even though its not the worst symptom.

They used hockey and Canada as evidence that it benefits children. This is from a book by Malcolm Gladwell...the Outliers. If anyone remembers the Dieners...(Travis being the most successful) they had this advantage and they were able to play basketball longer. Part of it was their uncle being their coach in Fond du Lac. But in the end, none of them are in the hall of fame.

I think its an interesting subject.

Everybody runs...and then the grounds crew has to put the tarp on the field even though you don't see rain. I guess life is cheap if you are grounds crew worker at Arlington. They must be serving as lightning rods for the more important players, coaches and umps.

Haha yeah I was thinking that. Everyone runs to safety but the grounds crew has to do their job. I read more down in the article and apparently it hadn't rained 15 minutes after they put the tarp on.
