    • Does the Bible/Jesus actually support a Liberal Ideal?

Disdain and respect don't have to be mutually exclusive.

90% of my family and friends I grew up with are "fundies" (fundamental Christian), and while I love them all to death, and respect the religion I grew up with, I also disdain a lot of what it causes them to do/say/think. There's a ton of positives to Christianity and other religions, but there's also a lot of ignorance and anti-intellectualism that goes along with it at times. Discussing anything to do with homosexuality/women's body rights/science in schools just leads downhill fast.

<The most annoying part is when anyone notices I've changed my views a bit since high school, they automatically take the Rick Santorum route and say "those damn atheist professors brainwashed you."

Its not a coincidence that increased education causes kids to rethink their world views a bit.

LOL - this thread turned out strange, when it was just here as a joke.

However the serious point would be that people of all ideals can look in the bible and make claims that a work (that could well be fiction) backs up their own ideals, and how other people are in the wrong. It's all about personal interpretation, and i just wish people would realise there is no wrong on right with it.

A personal interpretation. Sort of like man-made global warming. Gotcha

It is an interpretation.

You interpret a work. How do I relate to this passage? What does this symbolize? Knowing what I do about the author, I would think that this reflects influences of his childhood. Yada Yada.

You don't interpret a theory. You look at the evidence, and you either agree with it or you don't.

I think its b/c you say it everyday or a few times a day lol

always some anti christian semi rant

You are never rude or disrespectful, I dont mean that

you just come across like you have a real hang up and I think the logic is a little weak
we all know 95% of people are complete tools, it just happens most have been christian here for many many years. If they had all been Hindus, <Jews, Buddhists or atheist nothing would have been any different 'good' or 'bad' in the past...or now.
singling out the religion seems as irrelevant as the particular fashion of the time
it just seems like the Us vs them game

the word <Jew is banned here? I hope the people arent lol

i visit a lot of boards, and i've found that if you're going to know what's going on you need to talk to someone who posts there. i'm a newbie, and frankly you just seemed to be one of the nicer posters here and very non-threatening. i'm terribly sorry if i bothered you.
