The 1st banana head said churches should pay taxes if they get politically involved.

The 2nd banana head presented very Libertarian and Constitution Party ideas in his 2nd post. And you know I'm really more of a libertarian than a conservative.

I can understand taxing churches (and as a churchgoer, I would regret the hurt it would do to many of them) - and I think it will eventually happen.

But I don't think you can do it by judging the content of sermons. I think it should be all or nothing.

Who is going to judge if a sermon includes political messages? And is it only sermons? How about during announcements? Only the pastor? How about the church secretary? Are we going to send government spies to church to rout them out, or rely upon parishioners to "rat out" their pastor?

Too many problems. All or nothing.

My mother's preacher kept "preaching" against how evil Obama was, and told the congregation that anyone who voted for him was going to Hades. I think that parish or diocese should lose it's tax free exemption.

It took me about 1/2 a second. LOL

He was their Parish Priest for 6 years. She spent about 5 years and 11 1/2 months complaining to the Bishop about him, trying to get him transferred or fired. The guy was crazy and crooked.

Yes and every other. Otherwise it is the govt regulating free speech. Not generally a good thing IMO.

I'm all for all of this... I would also legalize not just pot but all drugs and educate people about drug abuse in a similar fashion as what we do now with cigarettes.
