I guess that means Carp, Waino, and Garcia are out for the year. The cardinals have never used a starter during the season that didn't pitch on opening day, now those guys won't have any opportunities to start any games next year. Shame on you Matheny, the first game is the most important game of the year. Our young manager has a lot of learning to do.

I'd imagine the opening day starter was picked according to whose turn it will be to pitch on 4/4. And Lynn probably wasn't eligible for consideration, being a rookie.

I have no idea. I guess it depends on whether they want pitchers on 4 days rest or 5 days rest this time of year and workout sessions between starts. But I would be happy with any of our 4 starters besides Lynn making that opening day start.

Count me in as one of those who don't understand this move. If they don't want Waino to start and save him for the home opener, then at least throw Garcia out there. I know Lohse is a decent pitcher but is that the best we can do for opening day?

I just hope Carp isn't sidelined for a long period of time.

Its a respect/senority type thing. Garcia will have his turns at opening days. And plenty of em.

Lohse will be fine.

And for the record, I think Lohse had a bit of a dead arm towards the end of the season. I expect him to be fine this year and win 15 to 16 games. 15-6 3.38.

I called for 15 last year as well and didnt miss it by much.

Everyone needs to lay off the guy. He is fine for what he represents in our rotation. We are lucky to have him.

Or does everyone long for the Jason Simontacchi days? You know, when the bottom of our rotation blew chunks.

I think it's more about wanting Garcia and Wainwright to pitch against a division "rival" (Brewers).

I guess we can kiss the post season good bye. Every time that Carp has been healthy we have made it to the post season.

I agree with laying off Lohse, and I've never been a basher but this news just took me a bit by surprise I guess.

I would like nothing more than for the guy to go out in 2012 and put up 15 wins or more and have a really good year.

I know Westbrook is looking good this spring, but I still think the team should have signed Edwin Jackson since he's a young innings eater. We'll see how the staff does with potential Carpenter health issues....

"but I still think the team should have signed Edwin Jackson since he's a young innings eater. "

How many innings per start did he eat in the playoffs?

Garcia didn't eat many innings in the playoffs either. Maybe we should get rid of him too.

Derp.

At least Kyle has done well in Spring training. Garcia has not.
