How Romney and Ryan Outwitted 24-Hour News Cycle

The escape plan was carefully choreographed. On Friday, after a day of work, Representative Paul D. Ryan pretended to turn in for the night, walking through the front door of his home in Janesville, Wis.

He did not stay for long.
To elude reporters camped outside, he slipped out the back door with a suitcase and walked through the dense woods that surround his property. He exited on a nearby street, where an aide in a waiting car drove him to the airport.

His destination, the Republican ticket.
For the past 10 days, the Romney campaign took extraordinary measures to keep Mr. Ryan’s whereabouts and movements a mystery. In the process, the campaign pulled off a rare feat in the era of the Twitter news cycle: Mr. Romney unveiled his vice-presidential pick on his own schedule, keeping his running mate’s identity secret until a few hours before a rally in Norfolk, Va., on Saturday morning.
It required painstakingly planned skulduggery, which the campaign outlined in detail, late on Saturday afternoon.

“We gave a lot of thought on how to make this work undetected,” said Beth Myers, the Romney aide who oversaw the vice-presidential search.
The unveiling began with a telephone call on Aug. 1, placed by Mr. Romney from his campaign office in Boston. He asked Mr. Ryan if they could meet four days later. Unknown to Mr. Ryan, Mr. Romney had already made up his mind.

But where to meet? Aides agreed on Ms. Myers’s house, in Brookline, Mass., a suburb of Boston. Nobody would be looking for a rendezvous there, they reasoned. But they took no chances. To get to Brookline, Mr. Ryan went to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago wearing jeans, sunglasses and a baseball cap to avoid detection. And instead of flying to Boston, the most direct route, he landed in Hartford, Conn., about two hours away. There, he was picked up in a rented S.U.V. driven by Ms. Myers’s 19-year-old son, Curt.
The S.U.V. drove straight into Ms. Myers’s garage, so neighbors could not spot Mr. Ryan. Mr. Romney arrived soon after, taking Mr. Ryan into the dining room for a private hourlong conversation.

The two men hashed out, in detail, how the relationship between nominee and running mate would work. They looked beyond the campaign as well. “We talked about how we’d work together if we get the White House, what the relationship would be, how we would interact and be involved in important decisions,” Mr. Romney said on Saturday.
Then, Mr. Romney offered the vice-presidential spot. Mr. Ryan accepted. “By the time we met in person, I kind of knew it was going to happen,” Mr. Ryan said. “I was very humbled.”
The campaign had planned to make the announcement on Friday in New Hampshire. But last week’s shooting at a Sikh temple was in Mr. Ryan’s district, with the memorial service that day. So it changed course, picking Saturday in Virginia.
On Friday, when Mr. Ryan left home, his walk through the woods took him on a journey through time, past his childhood home and the tree where he had once built a fort.
“I know those woods like the back of my hand,” he said, “so it wasn’t too hard to walk through them.”

Joke for the Libs:

President Obama has taken 1/3 of vacations of President Bush by this point in his presidency and found 100% more bin Ladens.

One of those enjoyable chain emails I just got:

4 Simple Questions

1. Back in 1961 people of color were called 'Negroes.' So how can the Obama 'birth certificate' state he is 'African-American' when the term wasn't even used at that time?

2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama's birth as August 4, 1961 lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right? At the time of Obama's birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama's father was born in " Kenya , East Africa ". This wouldn't seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama's birth, and 27 years after his father's birth. How could Obama's father have been born in a country that did not yet exist? Up and until Kenya was formed in 1963, it was known as the " British East Africa Protectorate".

3. On the birth certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is "Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital".
This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called "KauiKeolani Children's Hospital" and "Kapi'olani Maternity Home", respectively. The name did not change to Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. How can this particular name of the hospital be on a birth certificate dated 1961 if this name had not yet been applied to it until 1978?

4. Why hasn't this been discussed in the major media?

Perhaps a clue comes from Obama’s book on his father. He states how proud he is of his father fighting in WW II. I’m not a math genius, so I may need some help from you. Barack Obama’s “birth certificate” says his father was 25 years old in 1961 when he was born. That should have put his father’s date of birth approximately 1936—if my math holds (Honest! I did that without a calculator!!!) Now we need a non-revised history book—one that hasn’t been altered to satisfy the author’s goals—to verify that WW II was basically between 1939 and 1945. Just how many 3 year olds fight in wars? Even in the latest stages of WW II his father wouldn’t have been more than 9. Does that mean that Mr. Obama is a liar, or simply chooses to alter the facts to satisfy his imagination or political purposes (still qualifies as a “liar”)?

It doesn't say he's "African-American." Look for yourself.

So, #1 is a lie, easily debunked. Is it necessary to go on?

Presidents don't 'pass a budget.' They propose one, which Congress routinely rewrites, and embody in several pieces of legislation. Then the president can choose to sign or veto the various bills that make up a budget.

"Higher unemployment, declining incomes, and crushing debt is not a new normal. America needs a comeback."

So sez Mitt Romney.

Now, that's not confused, it's just false. Of course the President has proposed budgets, every year. Indeed, back when this claim was being debated here the first time, I posted his first budget proposal from when he first took office. He's produced a budget proposal every year since.

You mean to say that the Senate has not passed a Republican-sponsored version of Obama's budget, one which Obama himself repudiated and asked that no Democrat vote for.
