Yes, but the cost for Owings or Gregorious will be high. A top pitching prospect. Towers collects those middle infielders because he knows they're scarce.

From what I've heard and seen, he's just average defensively.

Baseball America disagrees (see link above):

"At 6 feet, 195 pounds, Arruebarruena has clean hands, quick actions and good body control. He’s a below-average runner, but his quick first step and instincts give him good range. He has a quick transfer and a plus-plus arm with accuracy, which allows him to make throws from deep in the hole and turn 4-6-3 double plays with ease. His awareness in the field is advanced and he’s shown the ability to make the barehanded play look routine and make strong throws from different angles. Scouts have called Arruebarruena a magician in the field, and if he can hit enough to be an everyday major league shortstop, he has the potential to win a Gold Glove."

Or, if you don't like Arruebarruena, you could just play Tovar at short.

A defensive shortstop paired with Lagares in center would help out our young pitchers a lot.

We have Tovar who might be better defensively than anyone the Mets are considering trading for or signing. Let him battle it out with Tejada. If Tejada can't get back to hitting .280 maybe you give the job to Tovar.

Tovar has possible gold glove defense at short.

Maybe typical Gold Glove caliber, but nobody is winning a GG with Simmons in the league.

Well if that's true then they should definitely go after Arruebarruena then.

We need a shortstop but this year might not be the year to do it. Next offseason, Asdrubal Cabrera, JJ Hardy and Jed Lowrie will all be available, we should grab one of them next year

Maybe we can get a young shortstop through a trade and then next year we can keep him or flip him and sign a free agent shortstop.

Lowrie yes but the other 2 are garbage. Lowrie is in a league of his own compare to Hardy and Cabrera.

I would do Montero for owings. I like Montero but can he break into this rotation: Harvey niese wheeler gee syndergaard for 2015, not even counting bartolo or mejjia?
