Couldn't hurt at this point. One-year deal, pro-rated? Hard to expect any immediate impact with only 11 farm games under his belt in 2012 but he could be a decent piece for the stretch run. If Delmon continues to struggle they absolutely have to do something and Matt "You mean you're supposed to actually hit it" Young is not the answer. Get rid of the two Youngs and bring in an old and watch him hit dingers off his shoe tops.

As thin as our depth seems to be (I mean, come on, we called up a guy from A+ this past weekend), I'd say the Tigers could use all the help they can get. If he turns out to be terrible or if Delmon or Raburn really turn things around, release him.

I don't think it'll happen as DD seems to be standoff-ish on these types of low-risk veteran player signings, but given our current situation it seems silly not to give it a try. We passed on Abreu, and he's doing really well with the Dodgers so far.

I'd sign him. Last year was probably his worse season and he still hit .290.

Just what we need is another guy who swings at bad pitches.

His knees are virtually disabled ..but yes ..I'd sign Vladimir at this point. He sure could not do any worse than Delmon. I think Vladimir would jump at the opportunity too hit behind Miguel and Prince in the 5-slot. And strategically ..Berry could pinch run for him 8th or 9th inning if necessary.

Everyone said that about Abreu too. Only thing he is doing now is playing the outfield everyday and hitting .326 for the Dodgers.

I would never confuse Vlad's skills with D. (swing&miss) Young's skills at bat. The difference is that historically, Vlad hits a good percentage of the bad pitches he swings at.
Moreover, ..Vlad has collectively batted .318 in the minor leagues so far this year. He has 19 hits in 12 games with 12 Runs scored ..3 doubles ..1 triple ..4 Homeruns ..and 12 RBI's.
Again ..in only 12 games.

Vlad will probably find a team that can appreciate his batting skills ..play for 3 or 4 more years ..and obtain 3000 hits for his career.

Only problem I have with trying him out would be that it would pretty much ensure that DY will be the everyday left fielder. I just don't have confidence that JL would just sit him.

according to the hick from atlanta, defense doesn't matter. sign him to play 2nd base.

And while Vlad may swing at bad pitches ..he doesn't strike out all that often.

I can see upside potential with Vlad as DH..

Jackson (cf)
Boesch (rf)
Cabrera (3b)
Fielder (1b)
Vlad (DH)
Avila (c)
Peralta (ss)
Santiago (2b)
Berry (lf)

idk i mean the jays have encarnacion at DH, but lind is underperforming to date (is he finished?) and i think if anybody thought vlad could be an asset on the big club he would have gotten a shot by now.

For what it's worth, he did have 4 hits in last night's game. I think that's what triggered his release request.

i think dirks will play ahead of berry although i like berry much better than young (either one). vlad works but only the tigers leave fielder at first. ouch!

Vlad requested the Blue Jays either call him up to majors give release him. Seems the Blue Jays because the Blue Jays do not have room for him on their roster, ..in part because the Blue Jays 1b David Cooper is hitting so well lately that it keeps Edwin Encarnacion at the DH position.

My revised potential lineup (w/Berry on the bench):

Jackson (cf)
Boesch (rf)
Cabrera (3b)
Fielder (1b)
Vlad (DH)
Dirks (lf)
Avila (c)
Peralta (ss)
Santiago (2b)

Dirks better play ahead of Berry. Berry has been nothing short of terrible since June 2. It'd be nice to see him turn it around, but I'm becoming more and more skeptical.
