People on here have said that we have faced great pitching, that was the reason for many of the recent losses. I think that's bull. Dillon Gee pitched 7.1 innings against us and gave up just 3 hits, Dillon Gee! The Nats might have the best pitching in baseball, but the Mets are #19. We have not been scoring runs because our offense has not been performing. We have scored 10 runs in the last 7 games. We did not face nothing but All-Star caliber starters and relievers in that stretch. Heck, we even faced Miguel Gonzalez and could not score a run off of him. Our offense is going to have to start generating at least 2 runs per game on average over these next 6 games against the Angels and Indians or we will go 1-5 at best. I don't know why people expect our starters to all pitch like Cy Young and pitch 7-9 scoreless innings every time out, but that's a pretty unrealistic standard to set for all 5 starters IMO.

If we make it to the playoffs, most teams will likely use their top starters more often and we will likely only face the best out of their bullpen. Our hitters need to hit above average pitching or we will not last long.

Santana and Dickey in the same 3 game series means we didn't face the 19th best pitching. The Mets rank 4th in SP ERA and we got their best 2. Their weakness is in the BP with the worst BP ERA, but because the SPs were so good we saw little of that weakness.

The Nats pitching staff is just ridiculous right now so it didn't matter who pitched that series. It was all about matching their pitching or blowing away their pitching with the bats and fortunately one of those things happened.

You don't understand baseball if you think any offense should score off anyone. The Red Sox couldn't score off Chris Davis in 2 innings. The Orioles only saw Gonzalez for 2/3rds of an inning. The Yankees didn't score a run off him in 2 innings between 3 games this season and if you might recall their offense is a little better than ours.

The offense isn't fine, but there isn't much you can do right now with Reimold done, Markakis out and some other key guys not hitting.

The Yankees offense averaged 1 run per inning off of Dickey. We averaged 1 hit per 9 innings off of Dickey. If we can't be at least 1/4 as good as the Yankees offense, then we can not compete no matter how great our pitching is. We can not expect our pitching staff to maintain a 2.50 ERA or below in the AL East. It is not reasonable when you look at the offensive lineups in the East. We really need to score 3 or more runs a game to contend, right now we can't seem to do it. Need to wake up the bats, someway, somehow. Too bad we let Tejada go, he was the only one that seemed to motivate Reynolds to perform.
