Its the classic example of some Met fans overrating a average player. They always do this and they do what ownership/management does where, the player achieves something or does well part of a season or one season and they refuse to give up on him when he has 2 or 3 straight seasons of poor/average stats hoping that he is going to magically somehow return to his production like he did on his breakout season or half season. He doesn't have a position. He is not consistant. Everyone sees oh wow 320 average, yet fail to bring up his 2009 season which he stunk. They look at his 320 average but yet fail at seeing that he doesn't steal bases, not a great baserunner, doesn't have power numbers, doesn't score a lot of runs, doesn't drive in runs, and has horrible defense. He is overrated but just like John Maine, this team waits until they know for certain that he is not going to blossom into something big. Maybe this year they will get the hint, maybe 5 years from now when we keep bringing him back.
I really doubt he is going to sustain a 320 average over 590 at bats
I really doubt he is going to hit 25 homers
I really doubt he is going to steal 30 bases
I really doubt he is going to drive in 90 rbi
I really doubt he is going to score 100 runs
I really doubt he going to run faster than he does
I really doubt he is going to play above average defense
I never understood the hard on for this guy
