Neither of those players put up numbers even close Montero's minor league numbers. Why are you even replying?

I would have loved to see Hamels as a Yankee. What the h*ll was Cashman thinking?

So they gave up Montero for a project? Pineda was brought here to pitch like a top starter and compliment CC. He wasn't brought along for the ride.

I hope this is just a bump in the road because he seems like a good kid.

The budget. The restrictions over the next couple of seasons are going to be a real pain in....butt. Yea Hamels would have looked good in pinstripes.

I calling it a night take care man.

The point is you don't know what you have in a prospect until they play at the major league level fully. You're building up Montero as the next big thing when he has not proven anything.

FWIW, Drew Henson was also in the top 10 prospects at one time.

Pineda pitched 1 season in the majors. He hadn't really proven anything other than the fact he was decent in Seattle and scouts raved about his stuff.

His secondary pitches are ahead of most pitchers his age. If he has had a shoulder issue most of the Spring and was hiding it, that could be telling of his issues. He also came into camp over weight which probably didn't help matters.

True coming to camp the way he did didn't help the situation.

The Yankees aren't sure he hasn't had the pain in his shoulder all Spring. If he was hiding an injury that may now be worse because of it, that is a major concern.

Henson never hit .300 in any of his 6 minor league seasons. In fact, I believe the closest he came was .280. Montero was in a different league (no pun intended) as far as hitting.

Yet Henson was still one of the top prospects in all of baseball at one time.
