They have seven teams within cities that have no other major team in any sport - Orlando, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Portland, Sacramento, Memphis.

The NHL, which has the same problems, also has seven - Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, San Jose, Columbus, Calgary, Edmonton - but they're filling a market demand in those Canadian cities.

The NFL has two - Green Bay, Jacksonville

The MLB has zero.

I realize that there are some schools that are coming up. You must have missed the "for the most part" part of the statement that you used. I used Mizzou as an example. However, Mizzou is not a powerhouse yet. That is still Duke, Big East, UCLA, Kentucky, and the like. And, yes, they still are running the show.

UCLA? They havent been a power for years and the PAC-10 has been awfull for a while.

The rules are something that I wish they would tighten down on a little. Could you imagine the numbers Oscar Robertson, Pete Maravich, and Bob Cousey would have put up if he had been allowed to put their hands on the side or underneath the ball while dribbling? There would have been unbreakable records. I understand why they do it though. People don't pay to see the ref blow his whistle. They come to see Kobe make a play. As far as the charging is concerned, a lot of those no calls are occuring inside that arc that they have made by the basket.

You say that it is not as fun to watch because of the rules and fights, and I can understand that. They have been doing the stuff with the rules in the NBA for a long time. Magic, Bird, Jordan, and Dr.J used to walk all over the gym, and NBA basketball was fun to watch while they played. I would agree that the quality of the NBA has gone down, but I think it is because of there being too many teams. This is watering down the talent with people that would not have made it 20 or 30 years ago, and it is spreading it out too much. Lebron said it right about a week ago when he said that there are too many teams. He said the NBA was great in the '80s because there were three or four superstars or every team. It is not that way now. I also think that the players are different now. Jordan was probably as mean an SOB that every played. Heinsohn used to tell people to expect to be decked if they came into the lane against the Celtics back in the '60s. I would agree that the act that is put on in the NBA gets old. It is too bad that there are not guys in that league like Heinsohn. That would not happen. You were not going to show up Larry Bird or Charles Barkley. I think they are getting a handle on some of it, and it will eventually be a lot better. I like the way they are calling technical fouls this year. Maybe that is just a step in the right direction.

They did the same many years ago. Converse made a whole ad campaign out of Bird vs Magic with the weapons. I thought Bird's shoes were just ugly but the Celtics were my team as a kid. A Celtics fan walking around in Magic's shoes (which were Laker colors). They were just cool shoes though. Had to have the first pair of Jordans too. You would get the Bird vs Dr.J or Magic vs Jordan. That is not new.

This is the thing that I do not like about college basketball. They are playing way too many junk games. The season really doesn't start to matter until mid January. Now there are good games in team's schedules, but the majority of it is like the game Kansas had last night or Arkansas vs Texas-Arlington or Mizzou vs UCA. Come on.
