Jurrjens is damaged goods right now. No team would trade anything for him.

Pastornicky will be fine ......and the Braves don't need a "hard hitting" shortstop. They need one who can move runners over and get on base.

Pastornicky's performance last night was actually really good. Hopefully we get to see more of that all year.

I wish I could have seen it......I dozed on and off from about the 3rd inning on. I did manage to wake up to see Kimbrel get his save.

"we need a shortstop that is able to produce some runs for us, i.e. hit the ball"

How was last night? If we need a shortstop who can hit, do we also need a 2B-man who can actually catch & throw? Shortstop is not the greatest of ATL's needs right now. He's a rookie still developing, I'd say let's give him time and see what turns out - could be a dependable, cheap player for sometime. My take on needs are that the whole team - EXCEPT Pastornicky- needs to learn to move runners - seriously, how many do we leave in scoring position with 0 or 1 outs or fail to move on a bunt?

I don't remember what inning it was last night, but at one point in this series Vin mentioned we were 1-15 with RISP...I think it lasted until Martin got one by Kemp.

Knew it was pretty bad - I feel like I'm saying the same thing year after year, but its become a defining characteristic of ATL hitting. I remember thinking when LA got their leadoff on in the first inning - bet they find a way to score, and they did. I love the Braves, but we've got to get better at more than a few fundamentals to get into, & past round 1 of, the playoffs.

Once again--- yes, but --- its runs of greatness & runs of nothingness that are averaging into perceived good numbers. We need more consistency when we hit the better playing teams to keep the wins coming.

I don't know where to find that stats but based on watching baseball for a few years I'm pretty sure that the team with the higher RISP will probably be more likely to win than the team with the lower RISP.

I haven't looked in a couple days, but I think for the year we've actually been doing pretty well with RISP...granted, it could in part be due to the competition, and it's definitely something that we need to continuously improve on.

From the GIP thread last night:

Maybe everybody will lay off Fredi some now that Pasto has had such a good game. Just maybe he and his staff know a little something about player development.

If by player development you mean benching the kid for 3 straight games, then yeah sure, great player development.

Every one was yelling Fredi was an idiot for starting Wilson 3 games in a row.

Fredi said they were doing it on purpose so that Tyler could work with Walker. They thought Tyler was pressing and things were "flying" around him. Their goal was to get the game to slow back down for him. Being a rookie on the road for the first time presents a lot of challenges that don't actually include the games.

Anyway, they were going to sit him 2 games but decided on 3 because of Wilson's numbers against Capuano.

Now that he returned with 3 hits and a walk in his first game back I am pointing out that maybe Fredi and Walker actually know a thing or two. Wilson had hits in multiple games while Tyler was on the bench too.

Quote from Pasto in regards to taking a few games off:

"It's all part of the process," Pastornicky said. "I got off to an all-right start and then after some balls did not fall, I think I started to press and doing stuff I don't usually do. You find yourself putting yourself into a slump. It's just one of those things where you have to relax and do what I do best, which is to make good, consistent hard contact."

OK...it sounds like we are in violent agreement on that issue...it kind of threw me off since we had been talking abut team RISP.

He had a great game last night...let's hope he has another tonight.

I was unhappy about the benching at first but it makes sense now with the whole story and his night last night. He's smart and hard working.
