>>>"Yeah, our opinions of him as a player are one thing, but where are we getting this notion that he's this insufferably arrogant basterd from? As you said, it sure seemed like the whole team rallied around him when there was talk of sending him down to AAA. "<<<

I think for those reactionary fans who just don't like a player and his performance at the present time, it is easy for them to build up something in order to give them more of an excuse to lobby to get rid of him.

I have heard that Ike has his own opinions about how he should approach his game. If true, then maybe part of that comes from his dad being a major league player and them taking a lot of his training over the years on their own shoulders.

And if he is "cocky" as the the OP accuses, then I don't know that even that is a to be considered a bad thing. I think all athletes need to have at least some cockiness/confidence in themselves in order to rise to where they are. As long as it doesn't turn into a negative thing like pure arrogance, I see no problem. We get on players like Duda and Parnell for maybe not being confident enough in themselves, so why not let Ike be a bit cocky if that helps him achieve good play? Yeah, he isn't hitting for average this year, but what players don't go through rough times ?

As for him being a clubhouse cancer... Well, clearly the OP posted no facts to support the allegation. I have never heard anything like that, and it doesn't seem like anyone else has either. The only fact that is a fact, is the one I posted. His teammates went to Terry to support Ike and ask that he not be sent down. Doesn't sound to me like the type of treatment a clubhouse cancer would be getting if he were really a clubhouse cancer.

I think this was just the OP projecting his own feelings onto the team, and thus conjuring up drama that isn't there. "artistic license" ? lol

You guys really think all 25 guys went into the managers office pleading for Ike to stay in the majors when he was playing so horribly earlier in the year? Give me a break... what do u expect the players to come out in the media and say Ike should be sent down?

And no I don't know anyone inside the clubhouse but I watch how Ike carries himself on the field. I recognize these aren't "great revelations" I'm coming up with here but then again my point wasn't to invent moneyball 2 here. The point is as a lifelong Met fan I simply can't stand this guys attitude or play. Until he decides to grow up and stop blaming other people like umpires for his play he will never evolve as a player.

I don't know Ike Davis or anyone who knows Ike Davis and I didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night so I know nothing about his personality, etc. Quite frankly if he hits .275/35/100 he can eat kittens in the dugout for all I care.

But every time the Pagan for Ramirez/Torres trade comes up there are 50 people here talking about what a bad guy and clubhouse cancer Pagan was so I take all of it with a grain of salt.

If this is the best response you can offer, then you'll need to try a lot harder my friend. No, we wouldn't expect teammates to come out to the media saying demote someone, but when players go to the manager and lobby to save their teammate, it completely refutes your blind speculation and projected feelings that Ike is a clubhouse cancer. You are basically just making sh*t up with no facts, just to support your feelings of dislike toward Ike, and that's not really fair bro - at least not in my IMO.

Okay, you don't like him. We get it. We all have players we don't like. And your point about arguing with umps might even have some validity, but you're original post, IMO, is overblown and filled speculations that seem based out of you own personal distaste for him, rather than facts. I, and I think the majority of others here, would just rather give the kid the benefit of any doubts this year with his performance, and we'll let the clubhouse cancer comments pass since there is nothing to support it, only to refute it.

LOL... Look out kittens, Ike is hungy... lol

And I for one will admit that I have brought up the Pagan on a number of occasions as further justification as to why they were willing to deal him. But just speaking for myself I don't think I ever term him a clubhouse cancer. At least in Pagan's case, there were numerous comments by reporters, and even Met broadcasters, that I heard that said the Mets management felt that Pagan had gotten on the bad side of his teammates and the manager/FO last year, with his sulking and selfishness over his pour play. I don't make the accusation myself since I am not in the dugout and never saw or heard anything personal, but this is what I heard/read for credible reporters and announcers and I just convey that. I have never heard any such thing about Ike, but just the opposite in fact.

Things that get reported/said after a player is traded don't carry a whole lot of weight and I've never been able to find any published report about Pagan being a bad guy.

I do recall reports of Pagan's behavior long prior to him being traded. Not so much that he was a "bad guy", but just that he was letting his own trouble effect him and the way he interacted with the team and management. But I do agree that sometimes your critics tend to become more visible when you've left the room. ;)

I think both Davis and Valdespin are over-rated.

Usually, you'll never find out the truth about these kind of speculations. I've heard people say D ick Allen was the biggest cancer in baseball history, but I've always heard numerous teammates say what a great guy he was particularly in helping rookies

That might turn out to be the case in the long run, but clearly one has to take a credible amount of time to determine that and not be reactionary.... especially considering that we aren't a franchise with that type of organizational depth that will allow us to brushoff prospects without properly vetting them first.
