The injury situation has really decimated the offensive (and defensive to a lesser extent) prowess of the Cards roster. If they can't get some of the presently ailing key players back healthy and effective ... well, draw your own conclusion. Too many key players on the Cards would look more natural in a Red Cross tent than on a baseball diamond! However, going in, it should have been no secret that susceptibility to injury to many key players could potentially be a fatal flaw for this roster.

That might not be such a bad idea! If Adams is healthy, he might as well get introduced to MLB. His "rookiness" may be a plus for him til pitchers get a "book" on him.

I, too, am not very optimistic that Carp will ever perform at an effective level for the Cards, and quite possibly not at all.

As excited as I am about Adams I don't see him as a fix/answer right now.
His only position is 1B and he hits LH. Right now that is Berkman. And I think moving Berkman to the OF would be a mistake.

Corner OF will be Holliday & Beltran(hopefully any day now!). Berkman is at 1B and Craig/Carpenter back up both positions. I know Craig is on the DL(is that official?) but I can't see bringing up Adams to PH & back up Berkman.

Saw a tweet that said Chambers was in LA now and Dickson's agent tweeted last night that he had been called up by the Cardinals so I guess the moves will be made official soon.

Both moves are now official, Craig and McClellan have both been placed on the DL the team announces.

You have a point, but the Cards need some offense to make up for the walking (and not playing) wounded key players on the roster. I would prefer waiting till the end of the season to bring Adams up for a taste, but if the DL list stays populated with most of the Cards offense, something will need to be done to offset the loss of offense (and defense). And I'm not fully comfy with the notion that Puma will not make another visit to the DL list before the season ends.

As for Puma in RF, it might be easier on him than the infield ... one never knows for sure. What's best depends on precisely what is the source of his ailing. At 1B he gets caught having to make a lot of sudden and awkward moves and twists which could be more deleterious to his bod than the occasional running he needs to do to play RF.

If Carp does come back healthy I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot at the closer role. I don't know how that would effect Motte or even how Carp would feel about it. But it would extend his career and keep him in St. Louis for a couple more years. Like I said I don't know if its realistic at all but I kinda like it.

I'm not sure that Carp would fare well at a closer role. Maybe so, maybe no! It would be nice to extend a PRODUCTIVE career. But I'm concerned that this latest injury piled on top of the many he has had over the years, and his age, might be the straw that broke the camel's back on his performance potential. I'll be ecstatic if he comes back and is able to pitch effectively in any role this season ... or next season, for that matter.

If Berkman goes down for a lengthy period you might see Adams.

Otherwise I really don't see Puma in RF. Unless Puma and Beltran go down together then Craig fills the void in RF & 1B with Carpenter helping out.

Adams looks so good I hate to mess with him right now. If Berkman doesn't come back 2013 is his time.

why 60 day dl carp when we already have 2 roster spots open on the 40 man roster from romero and komatsu being outed, and possibly a 3rd one about to open up with kmac

no need really to 60 day dl carp, we can still add whoever we want to 40 man

Hey Bane....I with ya. I know all the other clubs have injuries, but what "torques" me off is that Cardinal injuries usually are diagnosed as "day to day", but eventually result in being "week to week" or "month to month". Go Birds.

Hey Utex....Methinks Carp, as a top of the line hurler, may be "toast". If he hung them up today, he certainly would always reflect in his "golden years" that he went out with a blaze of glory. Last October will never be repeated in MLB in the next bazillion years. Go Birds.
