I'm a bad fan. I used to watch every pitch of every game and bemoan the occasional day there was no TV. Now I watch a few innings at a time, just to see how the Astros will lose a tight game or marvel at a blowout.

I really can't enjoy the live atmosphere anymore due to failing eyesight. I need the angles and electronic help afforded by the media to see the action. But a young person could enjoy this time of affordable live baseball just as I did in the late 70s.

This too shall pass. The Astro will improve. But it will be a while. Now is the time to say, "This is my team, win or lose." This is when you get credit for going through the losing seasons. It will make the eventual Championship Runs all the more sweet.

I have seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you, but I have seen it.

I share most sentiments, because it is baseball and I live in Houston. Plus, I want my kids to love baseball as well, and be great Astros' fans. My oldest, Carter (4 year old), has a baseball room: baseball bed, baseball chair and about 10 Astros frames in his room.

I watch when I need a good laugh and to remind me when the Astros were a quality team instead of group of waiver claims and prospects. One word for the Astros...CHEAP. I also watch when the Rangers are not playing. If the Rangers are on TV, I watch them because Nolan Ryan and company have built a quality, winning team. The Astros seem to have no plan other than to keep rotating prospects between Houston and the minors and pick up castoffs that nobody else wants. I have always been an Astros fan but it's hard to keep being a fan of an organization that has no clue as to what they are doing.

"I watch them because Nolan Ryan and company have built a quality, winning team"

Uh, you know Nolan Ryan had little to nothing to do with the team they are currently fielding? The regime prior to him is the one that built that foundation.

I must admit it has been tougher to care to watch them lately but I do because I love baseball and I'm a life long Astros fan, win or lose.

The recent lengthy road trip out west, coupled with the losing, made it difficult to keep track of them (it's even worse for me as I'm in the eastern time zone). My interest did start waning at that time although I know I will always be a fan. At times I'm tempted to just go watch a local A ball game, despite the fact that the home team is in the Brewers organization!

If I make it over to Houston this summer I will definitely go and see them live if at all possible. I miss MMP, the fans, etc.

I still watch because I love baseball and like the rest of us, the astros are my team. I also like to see the young kids play especially when they get called to the bigs, like Barnes. Hopefully a few more guys get the call soon. I guess soon could also be a few weeks away.

I watch them cuz I love watching young kids grow into a winning team. Don't care about the records, I know there will be rough times.

"Let's me know that deep down this is very much a baseball town."

Let's be honest; it's a winning baseball town. Just like a winning basketball town (look at what happened with Rockets' attendance last year).

No offense, but you talking about attendance is like someone who didn't vote talking about who won the presidential election.

I am about town a lot, and I see lots of Astros gear still. Shirts, hats, jerseys and whatnot. And the last couple games at home when it looked like we might win, the crowd was really into it and showing their support.

That comment proves that you know absolutely nothing about how the Rangers were built. Before Ryan got involved, the Rangers pitching was the joke of baseball. He showed them to build the team around pitching as well as a good offense. NONE of the current pitchers were around when the "old regime" was in charge. Jon Daniels is the main reason all of these players are there now and he worked for both owners. The big deals that brought in the talent were when they traded Mark Texiexra(sp) to Atlanta and got Elvis Andrus, Neptali Feliz, and Matt Harrison. Then, they dealt Edison Vosquez to the Reds for Josh Hamilton. Signing Beltre was a stroke of genius. They also have people who know how to draft and develop players. While the Rangers were busy building a top farm system, McLane was drafting people and then was too cheap to sign them so the Astros farm system is in shambles.

Those moves all happened BEFORE Ryan got there. Check your facts before you go checking mine.

Ernest I have been an Astros fan since before they were named the Astros. I may get disappointed at times, I will admit that, but I would never turn my back on the team I have followed since my youth.

These games against the Nationals have been lots of fun. I not only get to watch all the new players being brought up or in some of their cases back up but I am seeing the future. Sure they have lost the games but I smile that we are in the games until the last out with the team with the best win record in MLB.

Since I just turned 68, I just hope they don't delay winning the WS before I either don't understand or can't see major league baseball anymore. ha ha ha

As Linda use to say, I HEART THE ASTROS!

Hey Facebook friends, there is a site you might like called "Houston Astros Hall of Fans". It is full of old pictures of players and even a past player or two post on there.
