Wow, that's cool that the Giants got a pitching prospect from the Yankees for Chris Stewart!

Yeah, it's too bad that Chris Stewart is gone. He did a great job catching Lincecum last year, and as you guys have mentioned, he has a great throwing arm. The thing is, he couldn't hit, and having Hector Sanchez coming off the bench and backing up Posey, will be a boost to lineup on days where Posey has the day off, or Posey is at 1st base and Belt is out of the lineup. Hector Sanchez could be an asset for the Giants.

About the Yankees though, I'm surprised they sent down Cervelli though. I agree that he was supposed to be the heir apparent to Posada. He must've had a bad spring. I guess they will go with Russell Martin and Chris Stewart as their catchers for right now.

LOL. Wow, the Yankee fans on the Yankees message board are freaking out.

I do see where they are coming from though. That is a questionable move by them.

"Based on that, I could see either Belt or Pill getting a mid season trade."

You could see the Giants trading the future first baseman or the only right handed power hitting utility player coming off the bench based on the fact that they traded one of their 3 backup catchers?

OK

Trading Belt is a ridiculous idea. He's a 40+ hr potential guy who's value is extremely low. Why would anyone want to sell low on Belt?

Well, there were several knuckle heads on this board who thought we should have offered him for Carlos Quentin....

"By mid season, there might be a clearer picture of what Belt's value is. I'm not encouraging a trade, I'm just prepared it could happen. It's more likely Pill gets sent off."

Belt is clearly one of the center pieces of the giants future plans. His trade value is extremely low. There is no chance he gets traded. None. Zero. It will not happen.

"Dealing Stewart shows Sabean consciously filling holes. If we need to fill the hole of Sanchez (his absence being one of the most cited reasons we lost 2011), and/or another starting pitcher, then Sabean will deal where we have depth. Currently we have too many guys who need to play at 1st."

But trading Belt would be creating a hole. They aren't going to trade a ML ready potential 40 hr hitting 1b prospect for middle infield depth. That is beyond ridiculous.

"What's ridiculous is that fans are all in on the guy, while they're letting their staff go public about how he's not yet ready. Look, I'm not arguing that he absolutely will get traded, I've already told you it's more likely Pill is traded instead, but it's a possibility."

Sorry, but it's not a possibility. Pill, maybe. Belt, absolutely not. Pill isn't a prospect. Belt is possibly the only player in the giants system with a realistic chance of hitting 45hr's a season. That's not a guy you trade for a utility player to fill a gap.

As terrible as Belt was at the plate last season, he was still on pace to hit 30 hrs. If at 23 years old and hitting .225 he can be at a 30hr pace, imagine what he could do at 27 years old hitting .280. Dude might hit 50 HR's a year. Belt does have that kind of ceiling. He's not Pill. He could be one of the premier power hitters in all of baseball.

I don't think even most giants fans understand what Belt has the potential to be.
