The Hawks have fired assistant coach Mike Haviland. Coach Q says it was his decision and made because he thought there was some dysfunction to the coaching staff.

And here I thought they were all a "happy family" ... I guess not.

"It’s considered a surprise move because Haviland, a New Jersey native, is considered one of the top assistant coaches in the league and head coach in waiting. It was just last summer that he was a finalist for the head coach position with the Winnipeg Jets."

Maybe it will work out better for Haviland (and more importantly, the Hawks) and he'll find himself a head coach spot.

Haviland seemed pretty cool.

Couldn't watch it tonight.. but just watched the highlights video on nhl dot com. Awesome.
No matter who wins between Devils and Rangers, I decided not to leave the King bandwagon.

What should the Hawks do in the offseason? Any attainable FA goalies?

I like the deal. He took a pay cut and will make 3.375 mil a year for 3 years. Having Mayers back for one more year is also a good move IMO. I believe Hammer might end up getting moved this summer and another D man will be signed.

Go Kings!!!!

This is all moot if they don't upgrade at goalie.

signing oduya imo is a real good move...he brings some stability to the defense and can log a lot of minutes night in and night out..

mayers..he's a decent 4th liner so either way is fine..

I had an interesting conversation with an alleged Kings fan on Friday. He went off on me about how classless and disrespectful Hawks fans are because of the Anthem. Watching this series, LA has some American Idol floozie with a name that sounds like an Olive Garden entree who is terrible. The super classy fans in LA spend the whole Anthem making cat calls at her. Her sweater has become noticeably smaller and more form fitting since her first appearance.

I don't like the premature cheering either. I don't think it's Chicago fans being classless, however. Just ignorant of the protocol.

"He went off on me about how classless and disrespectful Hawks fans are because of the Anthem. "

so sick of hearing other fans (mostly detoilet's) complain about hawk's fans being "disrespectful"..maybe they should move to some totalitarian state were that kind of behavior lands you in a gulag..i'm sure they would feel more comfortable..

it's just a friggen song..tell um to get over it :)

Next time tell him to google 1991 National Anthem at the NHL All star game. Nice little youtube video that might help him understand the cheering a little better.

The Hawks have resigned Brandon Bollig and Ben Smith to two year contracts.

They aren't giving Bollig much, so it's fine by me. Can't give a guy much just to fight on the ice and nothing else.

I'd ask if this Hutton will see NHL ice next year, but I doubt it.

Hawks got a steal with pick #18. Teuvo Teravainen is only 17 and small but he's been compared to Hossa and Datsyuk which is pretty good company. They had this kid going as high as the top 5 and he slipped to the Hawks. It will be exciting to watch these Hawks for years to come with the amount of talent they have through out the organization.

Hawks found their 2nd line center. Too bad it will take 2-3 years before we see him here.

He is young but come training camp you never know. Look at Brandan Saad and Andrew Shaw last year. Will be interesting to see what free agency brings.
