    • SIGN ADAM JONES LONG TERM!!!

  • 3pickoffs

Adam Jones could become a Free Agent in 2014. The Orioles have one more arbitration year left with him.

Matt Wieters could become a FA in 2016.

It's important that the Orioles win games this year to keep us... and them happy.

"It's important that the Orioles win games this year to keep us... and them happy."

And to encourage Angelos to reopen the wallet. No one wants to spend top dollar on a loser, including Angelos. Think that Angelos does not want to see another 1998, when he spent the most in baseball just for the Orioles to finish in 4th place, 79-83, in what began the sub .500 string which will hopefully end this year.

Offer Jones 7 years 105 mil. If he sticks his nose up, trade him at the trade deadline and load up!

Yes we can afford Wieters and Jones and I really hope we do. It's pretty clear they are going to be the big money Orioles of the next 5 years with Machado and Bundy coming after them.

I agree with you hunts because as long as we win and we keep winning. Peter would open up the wallet get a better product out there. Than what peter does will put more fans in the seats and the team will get more money and fan support.

He was just asking how long the Orioles have exclusive control over Wieters' contract. Matt can become a free agent in 2016 if the Orioles don't extend his contract. Those are the rules.

I would not give up matt. Hes the best fielding catcher we have. As for Bundy I would like to see him in Baltimore but not to give up the best fielding catcher to bring him up. as for machado we can get rid of Mark bring him up.

Ultimately, it's Wieters and Boras that have the final say. His contract is not for life and he is allowed to become a free agent at the end of it which is what Boras likes to advise for pretty much all of his clients. That's where Boras is able to drive the price of his player up is on the market, where he can get division rivals into bidding wars. This is how modern baseball is. I vote we bring back indentured servatude or slavery, but many seem against it. lol

"as for machado we can get rid of Mark bring him up."

Why not bring up Bundy too? Who care's if any of the players are ready or not. Machado is only batting .254 at Bowie, but that does not mean that he won't hit .300 here. AA is much harder than the AL East, right? And as for moving him to play third base, why not just move him to pitcher? Worked out great for Chris Davis who leads the team in ERA.

Here's a lineup you might like:

Alvarez LF
Tolleson SS
Hall 2B
Towsend 1B
Baker DH
Machado 3B
Welty RF
Bumbry CF
Exposito C

Let's just get rid of all the bums we got now and go with this superb lineup. Since our team has been so horrible so far we have nothing to lose. Oh, the rotation:

Bundy D.
Bascom
Bundy B.
Berken
Bergesen

WE can call them the 5 Bee's!!!! How cool is that?

The front office has given out extensions so I don't really see where that's coming from.

I bet he signs elsewhere. Angelos has a history of letting good players get away. To be fair the Orioles have a history of that going back to Reggie Jackson. They refused to pay him and he goes to NY and wins a world series right away.

And don't forget Cal Ripken Jr. We let him get away into retirement. He would still be playing shortstop if I had my way. JJ Ha-who? lol

Yeah, like Mussina too. We should have slapped chains on that guy and put him in the secret dungeon under the bullpen until he pledged his lifelong commitment to the O's. We let these ballplayers have too much freedom nowadays to make their own choices. If a ballplayer does not like playing for a losing team, he can go elsewhere. I blame the players union more than anything. It should be disbanded.

What baseball really needs is a salary cap. Pro football has one and is doing quite well with it.

I don't see why we should sign Jones he is clearly not an all around player. He leads us in R, Rbi, HR, Avg., SB but his BB #'s are terrible. Anybody who knows anything about sabremetrics knows that means he is extremely overrated.

Honestly, the way I see it, we should lock up Jones long term, and sit on wieters. No need to worry about signing a guy now who's here until 2016 anyhow. This team should be able to compete through 2013, 2014, and 2015 (assuming Jones re-signs) making it a much more attractive option to Wieters. If I had to choose between the two, I'd rather keep Wieters, but the price would probably not be as reasonable; thus, lock up Jones now through 2017 or 2018, and then if Wieters doesn't want to to stay in 2015, move him somewhere else if he asks for a ridiculous amount of money (unless of course we're realistically competing for the WS, but imagine the return we could get on him if we aren't).
