< Well, the do got Isringhausen occupying the 5th spot in the BP.. >
That's a pretty good indication that he will be on the 25 man roster, although its far from official.
I'm still amazed that people can't "put the pieces together" when it comes to Trumbo. In a typical week he will most likely play...1-2 games at 3B (against a team that is projected not to hit the ball in his direction (Callaspo sits)1 game in RF (against a LHP - Morales sits - Hunter DH or against a RHP Morales DH - Hunter sits)1 game at 1B (probably against a LHP - Morales sits - Pujols DH)or1 game as the DH (probably against a LHP - Morales sits)
The players that are not going to get many ABs are Abreu and Izturis. Izturis can give a rest to Aybar and Kendrick, and Abreu might play 1 game a week in LF. I don't see much more. The way they have been moving Amarista around seems like they are trying to see if they can replace Izturis and also give some rest to Bourjos without having Wells play CF. That would make Izturis expendable.
Release Abreu.Cassevaugh to DL.
That's 37 spots. Cantu, Isringhausen, and Langerhans can take those three spots.
Then, trade Callaspo, and that's back to 39, again.
I agree with Charles on this. Why? He has trade value and looks like we will be ok at 3rd base without him at the moment. The only thing we can do is wait to see what happens. Predicting is just a way to say I told you so for some, but Callaspo has done great and deserves to play everyday somewhere. With the Trumbo hitting in his 2nd year like he has, you have to want to keep him. Trumbo is looking like he could get 60 games at 3b at the moment and is not fair if Callaspo can play somewhere else almost everyday.
I would love to see Trumbo and Callaspo split 50/50 but I think the FO will lean toward Trumbo. Give the man credit for his 2nd full year coming. Callaspo will be needed full time somewhere else and I think by Trade deadline he will be gone, unless Trumbos glove loses games. only time will tell, but my gut feeling is Callaspo will be gone. I think he has been great, but I will trust our FO to do what is best.
Going to be very interesting for all of us fans to see what happens.
I love this batting order: Aybar Kendrick Pujols Morales/Trumbo Hunter Wells Trumbo/Cantu/Izzy Ianetta PB
If Callaspo stays I like that too!
I think most people are in agreement with you on how and when Trumbo will play during a 7 game period. I don't think there are more than 2 persons on the board who think Trumbo will be the everyday 3rd baseman.
Interesting that Dipoto said OBP was important to him for the club, so I wonder what will happen to Langerhans? .423 obp, 4 runs, 8 walks, 6 SO 1 rbi. Can't hit for a lick so far, but has a great eye for the walk and not a bad outfielder.
I didn't say I expected Trumbo to be the everyday thirdbaseman NOW. But, I think he has the potential over time to do it. Just a matter of getting used to it. He's made some nice plays at thirdbase. Just a matter of making it routine. He doesn't have to be Brooks Robinson over there.
That's why I was listing Trumbo/Cantu/Izturis at thirdbase.
< I wonder what will happen to Langerhans? >
I don't really see a spot for him, the same with Cantu. Trumbo will probably be the 4th outfielder, splitting time between there, 3B, 1B, and DH. Isringhausen is the big question mark. Right now it looks like the 25 man roster is...Pitchers (5)Weaver, Haren, Santana, Wilson, and probably Williams.Relievers (7)Walden, Downs, Takahashi, Hawkins, Thompson, Jepsen, and a question mark.Catchers (2)Ianetta and Wilson.Infielders (4)Pujols, Kendrick, Aybar, Callaspo.Outfielders (3)Wells, Bourjos, Hunter.Bench (4)Trumbo, Izturis, Morales, and maybe Amarista (another question mark).
Isrignhausen or Bell could take the last relief pitcher spot since Cassevah is day-to-day and may be going on the DL.
If Amarista can take over for Izturis then Izturis can probably be dealt since Amarista can also play CF, and Trumbo may be able to play 3B. In a pinch, Amarista or possibly Kendrick can play 3B as well.
< That's why I was listing Trumbo/Cantu/Izturis at thirdbase. >
No, the reason you listed Trumbo/Cantu/Izturis at thirdbase is because you don't like Callaspo. That is so transparent its funny.
No, it's because I think Trumbo will become a thirdbaseman, Cantu will do well, we still have Izturis, which means Callaspo won't have much playing time, and will be valuable as a trade chip.
More likely, you want to keep Callaspo because he's "established". You are the anti-saylo. saylo wants rookies, you want established vets.
Except you forget, the established were at one time rookies, and will one day become past prime.
Unless a Callaspo trade will result in a quality power arm, I don't see the Angels trading him and would rather keep the bench depth...a switch hitter with good OBP can be helpful when a baserunner is needed and you have either Trumbo or Wilson up at the plate.
A top-tier near major-league ready pitching prospect would do and would also have the added benefit of saving a couple million (perhaps making it easier to let Abreu loose if it comes to that.)
