    • Puig needs to leave little league

2 for 3 today with 2 BB.

His obp is .500 over 8 games, his slg is 1.000

He's playing rookie league because they want him to get back in shape and play. I don't think they thought he would even do well at first due to his long layoff.

By the way, Rookie league does have players who are 21, 22 as well as the 18 yo because draftees out of college also go there.

Puig should be moved up after a week or so more if he keeps dominating. He can't progress if the competition is to easy.

And, he played RF today.

"That's rediculous. He clearly has his timing down enough to be tearing the cover off rookie ball. He was doing conditioning already before he started a game. It hasn't been a year since he played ball."

I am sure part of the calculation for keeping him in Rookie ball is so he can utilize the spring training facility in Arizona to get in shape.

For people saying we need to release Loney next year, I hope you guys know he's a free agent. There is absolutely no way the Dodgers re-sign him.

We should treat Puig like a Keshaw blue chipper. Take the time to develop him right and we might have a powerful, fast, good defender for all three outfield positions for a long time. Why waste his youthful speed at First Base? Keep Victorino for a couple years until Puig is ready.

>>>I am sure part of the calculation for keeping him in Rookie ball is so he can utilize the spring training facility in Arizona to get in shape.<<<

Yea, but he's been working out and conditioning for over a month there now. Two weeks in Puig himself said he felt ready, but it's up to "them" (it had only been 5 months when he last played...it's not like he came out of retirement lol)

And Keith Law even sent this tweet on July 12th:

"Watching Yasiel Puig's workout - if nothing else, I can tell you he's not out of shape."

I don't think at this point he's playing rookie ball just to keep him at the Arizona super facility lol. He can get plenty more workouts in Alberquerque

Puig was also in Arizona for a few weeks getting into shape before he started playing games. Move him up to Rancho and see how he does.

You mean treat him exactly like we did Kershaw...who was brought up to the big leagues at the age of 20 after only pitching 200 innings in A and AA and never setting foot in AAA?

Ok, I agree! Let Puig play AA for the rest of August and bring him up in September :)

That's how we treat blue chips!

I appreciate the fact that you are entitled to an opinion, but why not try letting the folks that are getting paid to make decisions on where and when to play their minor leaguers have the benefit of the doubt.

Really, the only thing you know about Puig is what you read on the net, just like the rest of us. Maybe he's getting help adapting to the US and they want to do it in a more controlled environment, rather than have him moving around from town to town on buses. We just don't have enough info to be telling the Dodgers how to manage their minor league players.

This is why I suggested Rancho instead of shipping him off to the Midwest League right away. At least Rancho is somewhat close to the organization while he gets acclimated to the US.

I think there is a danger is raising a kids expectations too high too soon when our professional staff have had little time to work and acclimate him to the US. Let him play in the Arizona Developmental League and Spring Training. We will then have an accurate assessment beyond the hype and he will be less likely to develop a big head ego.

Wow..did you actually just take the time to post that to me? lol Over this??

That's crazy.

If you really feel that way, you should write a letter to MLB.com requesting they shut down these team fan forums because thats ALL these threads are...people second guessing management!

Like you've never questioned a management decision??? Please....

>>>I think there is a danger is raising a kids expectations too high too soon when our professional staff have had little time to work and acclimate him to the US.<<<

I understand that argument. I just think its a weak one :p

Cespedes defected from Cuba and moved to the Dominican Repulic in January of this year. He didn't set foot in the US till March of this year.

All he had was 4 weeks to condition in ST and get acclimated with the move. No rookie ball, no A, no AA, no AAA...no "welcome to USA!" courses lol...he was playing in the MLB within 4 weeks.

Likewise, Puig defected from Cuba and moved to Mexico...2 months later he's at our Arizona camp conditioning and training for 4 weeks.

I'm not asking him to be on the team as quickly as cespedes...just the he be moved up to AA or AAA! He doesn't need to be acclimated culturally, he isn't scared of traveling...if you read any interview with him you can see that. He is personally ready for anything.

The physical conditioning argument against progressing him to minors I buy more than the cultural one (and I buy the conditioning one very little :p)

But with all the players who come directly from the Dominican and play and aren't coddled under the guise they need to get ther American bearings...and with how cespedes didn't need that acclimation...that's my argument for putting Puig in the minors already. You may try to tell me tha Puig is a very special case compared to all the other foreign talent and thus needs to be treated with kid gloves...but you'd just be making a wild guess there too

If he was struggling where he was now, it would be a different story. But he's clearly not.

And no nwlad58...this isn't about me knowing more than the guys on the ground, it's about me having the opinion that even THEY won't keep him in rookie ball much longer because even THEY are talking about moving him up as we speak. :P

lol yes!

That was just a pointless post by you! You disappointment me cause I usually admire your posts...

But if every time you disagree with someone's opinion on here you are just going to say "hey, your opinion is invalid cause they know more than you thus they always make the right decisions since they know more..." you are going to get prettttttttty tired :p

Just stick with your valid arguments that you have when you disagree with someone...those are way better than your haughty "management knows everything, fans know nothing" BS thing you just tried to pull hahaha

I'm not saying its not TRUE that management knows more than fans on a message board....it's just pointless to make THAT your argument against something. You are better than that nwlad58

Nah! Not for forty some odd million bux. Puig plays R next year and Ethier goes to first. Let him play the rest of this year in the minors and all through the winter somewhere. Next year, he better be raking in RF at Chavez Ravine.
