I'm thinking crow eating contest.

Back after the Sox won the WS in 04, SemperFiSoxFan put up a thread about sh&tburgers. It was for the McCabe like crowd - funny as all get out.

But this thread?

Funniest yet.

At least both of them have pitched in the majors over the past few seasons. That's something Prior can't lay claim to doing since 2006.

Just as your thinking the Sox looking at Prior 4 or 5 years after you wanted them to look at him is vindication for you is very typical of your postings around here. Kind of like how you defended your post about asking when NY would catch Boston for the division in 2007 in July by stating that they only finished 2 games back of Boston. I guess the closest you seem to be able to come to being right many times is not being wildly wrong.

You on the other hand never make predictions so you can never be wrong. You simply sit back and pick apart everyone's ideas that are at all critical of the team. Whenever I say anything positive you are never to be found as another poster stated here recently.

I like many others on here am a passionate Red Sox fan but that does not mean I/we can not find fault when things are not going well. That IS allowed on here Ken. You have proven to be a knowledgable baseball guy and have taught me and others some things over the years. The most notable I would say is that it is not always wise to go after the "shiniest" FA every offseason but I counter that with it's not always wise to "dumpster dive only" either like we did this offseason either. The balance lies somewhere in the middle.

As for Mark Prior I have taken EXCESSIVE flak forever on him when all I said was we should have offered him a 1-yr incentive deal. Lord knows we've done that with many others who haven't worked. You guys all make it sound like I offered him 5 years at 100 million or something. At the time the guy was only a couple years removed from being one of the BEST SP in MLB. Now he really is nothing but a BBB but I am pulling for him just like I pulled for Mark Fidyrich all those years ago.

As for Theo the truth be known he did some great things in Boston namely building the farm system but his record on FA signings was generally terrible and though you disagree our WS titles were due in part to the guys Duquette brought in before Theo. Theo's best pick-ups were Schilling and Ortiz but he had many bad FA signings including ones that according to you {and I agree} have crippled us now.

As for you if you would just get off your high horse for a change you'd be a lot more bearable. No-one has had the number of "debates" with posters along this line than you.

You also seem to think the team has unlimited resources. You pay lip-service to the notion of understanding the amount of dead contracts they had entering the season and money already committed to other players, but then continue to whine when they don't go after any top free agents. Quite simply even a team with the revenues of the Sox can't go out and sign $10+ million/year free agent pitcher when they have a $15+ million per year one on the shelf because of TJ surgery and another $10 million one on the shelf to start the season because of the same thing. You pretend that isn't the case and complain that the team was "dumpster diving" this winter. Grow up and get some perspective for once.

And no, you weren't calling for an incentive deal for Prior. You wanted to guarantee him at least $1 million and possibly $2 million. It was motivated by your intense dislike for Tim Wakefield, which clouded your judgment on the matter terribly. THAT'S why you've been hammered over and over for it. Even what you consider a paltry amount would have been a huge waste, as Prior showed no indications back then that he was going to be able to pitch at all for anyone.

First off Ken I never said to go after ANY of the top FA's this past season. There were a handful of guys {some even suggested by you!} that were available but we dumpster-dived instead on M/L deals. And the Prior money even guaranteed was a pee in the bucket to what we spent on other high-risk FA's over the years.

I want to chime in here and point something out. You said this in the other thread that you dedicated to Ken:

"There has been quite a few threads named after me on here too Ken. Even if you don't start them you never miss the chance to chime in on them and slag me either."

For the record, Ken did not respond to this thread until after you called him (and others) out with your "there will be a lot of people eating major CROW on here" comment. You called him out, not the other way around, I know you probably don't see it that way, but I think any rational person would, and he then responded to your call-out.

I started this thread to poke a little fun, just as I would to poke fun at myself if the Red Sox were to go out and sign Andy Marte five years after I called him the next-coming (I certainly wouldn't be looking for vindication). I have no real interest in actually rehashing the whole Mark Prior debate, but you just can't seem to help yourself.

You mean like Edwin Jackson, who signed for $11 million with Washington? Yeah, they certainly had the money to go after someone like that. Or Kuroda who signed for $10 million with NY? Or Oswalt who turned down a $10 million deal from Detroit? Again, get some perspective. Even the guys you thought were "cheap" really weren't.

I never suggested ANY of those guys. In fact I said NOT to sign Kuroda. At the end when only Oswalt was left I was lukewarm to him. But I never asked for him.
