.500 means nothing to me unless it gets us into the postseason. It's playoffs or bust.

Every time you agree with me, the smarter I think you are.

Think people get confused with what I said but whatever. I didnt ask how would you feel if we finished the season with 82 wins. I asked how are you going to feel when we get the 82nd win and get the losing monkey off our backs.

When the Bucs get their 82nd win this year it will be great for a number of reasons. I think once they reach their 82nd win, the team will be able to relax a little bit and stop playing so tight, hopefully they will still be in the playoff race when this happens.. It will also be a huge relief to the fan base, that has suffered too long.

Personally it will be a huge relief, and yes I will be drinking and celebrating excessively on the PMB. Posters that are saying it is not a huge accomplishment, are right, but beating the streak will and should be a big deal. I am tired of the association of the Pirates and the consecutive losing seasons, that is the first thing that comes to mind for most people when you mention the Pirates, the consecutive losing seasons. It is time to get that monkey off of our backs.

Haha, 25 replies until you actually get your point across. I find that kinda funny, but can understand everyone else's responses.

When the Pirates get their 82nd win, I'm celebrating. If it happens 18 games from now, or if it's the last game of the year, it will be a special day for me.

Whenever it comes, it'll be a big deal to me.

I'm 23, so the last time the Pirates had a winning season, I was 3 years old. So I've never seen a Pirates winning season. This will be unprecedented for anyone in my age range.

So when they win #81 (That's the big one to me. Because I always looked at the streak as consecutive losing seasons, not consecutive non-winning seasons), it's going to feel like a big monkey off my back.

Watching Pirate games will be a lot different because now it'll be watching a team that has actually earned some respect throughout baseball.

Here's my take on it

I'm not gonna say playoffs or bust. Of course I want the playoffs. Who doesn't and I'm obsessed with checking the standings. But we have not ha a winning season in 19 years. If we don't make the playoffs but still get this never ending monkey off of our back I'm not gonna be mad about it as I've waited to put that behind me forever. And it would be at least a 10 game improvement if not more. I think with septembers. Schedule we may end the season with at least 85 to 86 wins. May get us to the playoffs. May not. Either way I'm proud of the strides
This team has made this year. Made strides last year. Each year we keep improving.

My reply dealt with the point he was making, the answer is, it depends on when it happens. But overall it doesn't mean much.

Frankly, I doubt these players think much about 82. Now that we're in a playoff race--two years in a row, sorta--I find myself not caring about it either.

if they play .500 ball for the next 32 games they might do it at home against the brewers sept 18th-20th. Think they have like 13 games after that so who knows might have a shot at 90 wins this year.

I don't know if they care to much about either, because the players right now have not lost 19 years in a row. I do feel that they probably get a little tired of hearing about on a consistent basis.

"At the start of the seson it was big, now it would be a dissapointment."

Would it be an improvement?

IN the context of how this season has gone so far, not such a big deal.

It would be bigger , for instance, if you were going into the last 10 games of the season needing 6 wins to get there and they succeeded.

With their success so far this year 82 isn't going to mean that much becuase there are bigger fish to fry.

Win 82 is going to be huge. It will mean the end of being the laughingstock of pro sports. It will be an emotional uplift for fans that have lived through this streak. It will be something that kids can enjoy, a winner.

Those who are saying playoffs or bust now? 82 means nothing?

Yeah, right. You know dang well they will be jumping up and down, not just sitting in a chair going "ho hum".

1 win over last year would technically be an improvement.

I'm with you surg. 82 will be huge for me personally, regardless of when it happens, and as sad as it would be if the Buccos do collapse, if it happens to be the last game of the year, I'd be on edge the whole game waiting to celebrate the end of the streak.

Beis,

Quench my thirst, no, but the amount of alcohol I will drink after #82 will be a good start!
