Had Hitler not invaded Russia, he may have just won WW II.

I agree....third base has not caused us that many games
if any.....we go out and get one of those guys and we are
stuck with him and the contract for three-four years.....
Yesterday a set up man cost us the game, the day before
it was a mess of people, five errors, a wild pitch, a passed
ball, and we were still in the game against the first place
Reds.....go figure.....

You copy that post down and in five or six years take it
out and read it and see if you still feel the same way.....
Prince wanted too many years and to be honest, if he
was at first base, do you think the cubs would have won
two or three more games this season than with Rizzo?
and last but not least, he would not have signed with the
Cubs for what he went to the Tigers for.....

" Hitler had a plan too, how did that end up?"

Exceptionally successful until someone else came up with a better one. He controlled an entire continent.

"If the Cubs are serious about competing, they cant be afraid to spend good money on a good FA,"

But it doesn't make sense to spend that money until they are close to competing.

That wasn't the point. It was his plan, which (as evil as it was) was successful until someone (us) came up with a better one.

All the money you wanted them to spend would have totally depleted the budget used to sign Almora, Soler, and other draft picks. It also would have been throwing money away since no impact free agents in those positions would have been likely to come to a non-competing team.

Ramirez wanted out. He flat out said he wasn't re-signing here. You can't force a player to stay.

Our bullpen has done well enough in situations Marshall would have pitched in. Essentially, he was an unnecessary luxury to have for a team not expecting to compete. The haul we got for him was more than sufficient.

Most fans, especially young fans today, are inherently impatient. They want everything fixed NOW! That will get you....well...the Cubs of the last decade.

"It's not like anyone on our side would have ever said, ok, we'll sign a treaty allowing you to occupy Europe and kill off all the jewish people."

Yes they would have. America turned a blind eye the entire time until we didn't have a choice because of Pearl Harbor. Everyone knew of the concentration camps but nobody knew exactly how bad they were and it wasn't until we came in and started liberating them did we truly find out. Stalin wouldn't have done anything, he was worried about industrializing Russia(which he killed just as many innocent people as Hitler did in similiar camps) and had already signed a treaty with Hitler. The only real thing he was missing from Europe was England and he had them just about out but then he split up his forces.

It wasn't even that, I would be willing to bet if he doesn't open up a second front against Russia he takes out England and wins. He would have Germany, France, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Italy, England, that is about everything. Stalin was done, he had more important things in Russia to take care of, we never wanted any part of it because we had our own issues to take care of, there was nobody else standing in his way. It was when he deviated from his plan did he lose, which one could say is what happened to Theo in Boston. He was very successful until he deviated from the plan that made him successful. He seems like a person who learns from his mistakes and never repeats them, so let's hope that is true

"do think the Cubs should have started the season with Rizzo at first base, Lahair in RF. "

Why? You must not remember Rizzo from spring training, they did a lot of changes on his swing in the minors. He would have had similiar problems to last year if he had started in Chicago.

What's that get us? Incremental improvement?

1. I had no objection to Ryno but would have preferred Sandy Alomar Jr as manager or hitting coach. I think we need a hispanic in one of those two positions who believes in plate discipline.

2. No objection to #2.

3. Does not sound like a big difference.

4. Not worth $2.655M unless we are locked into it for 13.

I don't disagree at all with we could have fielded a better team while still not affecting the classes of 14 and 15. DeJesus and Maholm and Camp were worth the money. Had Stewart panned out the season would have been much better.

I'd give Hamilton $90M/3, Youklis 2 years, and sign a couple starters like Maholm. Maybe Jurrjens. I'm not sure I'd spend $15-20M per a starter. Let's hope we invest short term in a 3B, OF and two starters.

Hey 23 you speak out of both sides of your mouth. You say to spend money on big name FA and not play the kids.At the same time bring up Ryno to manage although he has only managed minor leagues. The tribune and Hendry tried the FA spend the bankroll route and how far did that get them.Bottom line is if Ryno is so great, there are 30 teams that think different about that at this time. The cubs also tried the big name manager's with Baker and Pinella and that did not work.Yes this is painful to watch but it is growing pains. As far as Theo/Jed playing fantasy baseball with our minor league system I will take Solar right now....
