    • Anthony Gose: Strike out Machine

AA said he was told by the Vegas coaches that Gose was their most major league ready OF

Obviously they misjudged. He looks horrendous at the plate. Will another month of consistent at bats in the majors help? Maybe, but no one wants to find out this month.

Snider will clearly be the keeper when Jose is back.

Question not directed at me but his swing looks too long

His bat is staying on top of pitches. Needs to shorten up and be able to make adjustments to get under the ball if needed.

EDIT: Of course it's been a handful of games and it's entirely possible that we haven't seen anything yet.

The scouting reports have said exactly that about his swing though. Too long, too much swing n' miss.

If Gose were 24, I'd be concerned

but he's only 21.

If that's the case, then yeah.. Not good.

I haven't seen good contact from him yet.

my thoughts on his swing is that it needs some work. He changed to a wider stance in late April, supposedly this helped his balance. The movement is less than what it was but there is still too much going on. When he makes contact before he hits two strikes it's almost always solid contact, the two strike approach they have him just looking to make contact and he'll have to get used to not having Cashman's infield to help him out (hardest infield in the minors). One of the reasons I've lessened my hatred for Gose was that he's obviously very willing to listen to coaching. When I think of 21 year olds with mustard I don't think of guys that will be willing to make adjustments...but he's been very receptive to it. He's never going to be a low K guy but he's shown that he can make the adjustments to lower the rates.

Gose struggled each time he moved up a level, then found his groove

he will be fine after making adjustments but we won't see that happen this year

I also like the fact that he takes some walks, I think his average in LV is around .290, but his OBP is around .380 so that's a .90 point increase thanks to BBs. His Ks area concern no doubt, but he's showing he understands what he needs to improve to be a better player. We'll see what happens.

How many times does a 21-year old kid come up to the majors and rake right from the getgo?
Almost never, so what do people realistically expect to see a HOL right now. Get real.

He's going to have his lumps just like almost every other kid that comes up that sees his first sniff in the majors.

Yeah,

I think this little taste of the bigs will be good for him.
It will help focus him, making him realize that he's not 'already there', and give him an idea of the kind of things he needs to improve upon, if he wants to stay up in MLB.
