I've read a couple of articles but they didn't mention what he died from, could it be old age, that's what I'm guessing.

By the way, aren't you going to St. Louis this year??

AOL News does not give a specific cause of death, other than he had not been well the last few years. He was 93 years old.

He used to wrestle under his real name, Joe Scarpa, and was quite successful in the mid-south. When he signed with Vince, they came up with the Native American gimmick.

This is a show from Jonesboro in the early 60s when matches were held at the American Legion Arena. In the main event, he teams with the legendary Sputnik Monroe. Evidently, at this time, Monroe was wrestling baby face. Sputnik alternated between baby face and heel much like Jerry Lawler did.

Sputnik is a civil rights hero in Memphis. He single-handedly integrated the old Ellis Auditorium by refusing to wrestle unless blacks were allowed to sit anywhere in the building they wanted (not just in a special section for colored). Since Monroe was the biggest draw, the promoters had to go along with him.

That is so neat. Wonder where you can find some old Memphis wrestling posters like that. Dad told me about seeing matches in the AL Arena. By the time I got up to Jonesboro, they were holding them in the Earl Bell Center.

If any one is old enough to remember Dark Shadows,Jonathan Frid passed away at 87.Funny,I though vampires lived forever unless they were killed with a spike through the heart.
