Only if it's a worst case scenario. Could be they decided to sent him to Andrews just because he's the best at evaluating elbows and getting assurances from him that there's no structural damage there will put Crawford at ease about what he's feeling.

That's a good point. There is pain you can play through, and then there's pain caused by structural damage where you need to shut it down. Dr. Andrew can set Crawford straight on what the issue is.

It wouldn't be surprising if all he's feeling is simply a slight strain from having not thrown for so long as he was getting over the wrist issue. In any case we'll most likely find out sooner rather than later what the results of his exam were.

I was about to post this until I saw yours. Not good. This might go down as one of the worst signings ever. Remember, most people(including me) thought they he would be good his first 3-4 years here than have his play drop off dramatically. This was because of his skill set that was built on speed which goes first. He's already hade a crummy first year, has not and may not play his second and if he has the surgery, another year to fully get over the surgery. By the time he comes back he should be in decline. This is not to mention that he was overpaid to begin with.

Didn't Theo have some kind of secret agent following him around for a long time before they went after him?

In a perfect world I would like to see unwritten and unprovable collusion between the owners, all of them using cases like Crawford and Lackey, stating that no player will henceforth be given anything more than a three year contract-if they could agree on a unprovable limit behind the signs to a limit they would offer these guys for the contract, it would be frosting on the cards-don't forget we as fans are the ones who eat/pay for a good part of these out of control/spiraling long term contracts.
If above sounds too socialistic for some of you, well then, differences of opinion is the reason that forums exist.

Don, I think you're overstating things a bit here when you say it will take all of next year to fully get over the surgery. It's not as if throwing is a big part of his game to begin with, and even with the sore elbow right now it hasn't hampered hit hitting. So worst case pf him needing TJ surgery wipes out this year but not an additional one on top of that.

Assuming he needs the TJ, he'd be ready for 2013, and since he's 29 (turns 30 in August), which doesn't mean he's totally over the hill.

I'll grant his first year wasn't what everybody expected or wanted and now we wait to see what's what.

As for his money, it's all a part of the risk of the game. Not too much can be done about it.

No offense but imo there just seems to be just too much optimism with folks like Crawford-you know if he never comes back the same person as he was when he was at his peak, it wouldn't be the first or last time that this has occurred.
As a person who was very much in favor of his signing, I now think that his best days overall may be behind him.
Sure its fine to HOPE that everything will work out fine in the long run, but lets not kid ourselves-his condition and what he showed last year is not to be taken lightly.

Collusion was tried once in this league and nearly ruined it.

Owners faced collusion issues six or seven times I think. But that's about as close to perfect that you can get.
