    • Dodger Stadium to be renamed Yahoo Search Engine Park

Ok, I did some searching online after my post. From what I can tell the angels called it that when they played there, seems the dodgers always called it DS. I'm not 100% sure though. There must be someone who knows for sure.

It may have been called Dodger Stadium by the Dodgers, but when I was a boy everyone I knew called it Chavez Ravine, even Vinny called it Chavez Ravine.

When my Mom was an exec at Screwcorp in Industry, they had a company picnic at Elysian Park every year which always included a walk over the see the the ball park, then back to the park for the softball game in that large baseball field at the park, I wonder if its still there?

Gotcha. I've definitely heard it called that before too. I was just wondering if that was ever the official name of the stadium.

That I don't know, it should have if it wasn't in my opinion, I can't think of another ball park located in a similar fashion.

"It may have been called Dodger Stadium by the Dodgers, but when I was a boy everyone I knew called it Chavez Ravine, even Vinny called it Chavez Ravine. "

My understanding is that 'Chavez Ravine' is the name of the land (or ravine) Dodger Stadium sits on. It was called Chavez Ravine before the stadium was constructed. Either is correct - DS or Chavez Ravine. I don't think that the DS was ever named Chavez Ravine. :)

I went to both Dodger & Angel games at Dodger Stadium when I was a kid. As far as I can remember it was Chavez Ravine when the Angels had a homestand, & Dodger Stadium when the Dodgers were playing there.

Is this corporate money supposed to pay for Frank's rent on the parking lots? Is that why the new owners want / need that extra revenue? If so, we'll always be reminded of Frank's tenure here in LA. Everytime we go out to Bed, Bath, & Beyond Stadium.

Before the Giants moved to the 'Phone Booth' their stadium was commonly referred to as 'Battery Park' because the Giant's 'fans' at Candlestick Park would literally throw batteries at the players.

That's kind of what I read, the angels just didn't want to call it DS.

Just like when the jets played at Giants Stadium. We always called it the "The Meadowlands".

It wouldn't surprise me to see a new owner get revenue from anyplace possible, after all he's spending a fortune for the team.

And he'll / they'll probably be locked into a long-term lease with McCourt for the parking lots. What was it again? $14,000,000 a year to start?

What the ballpark's name is or has been and what it was called in the 60's are two different things. In my neighborhood (Valinda) we called it Chavez Ravine and that was where the Dodgers played,
no one ever called it Dodger Stadium. It may have been the name, but it wasn't traditionally called that in the 60's, as I said, Vinny called it Chavez Ravine, not Dodger Stadium then, perhaps he liked the name also.

'Dodger Stadium was also the home of the Los Angeles Angels (now Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) from 1962 through 1965. To avoid constantly referring to their landlords, the Angels called the park Chavez Ravine Stadium (or just "Chavez Ravine"), after the former geographic feature in which the stadium had been constructed.'

It's funny how much of their history is tied to us and they know it, it's totally a napolean complex thing with them. I guess I can't blame them for being so scornful.

Uppity, yes. Scornful, no.

And by the by, they didn't win a WS until a Dodger was running things. Just sayin'.

The whole coaching staff. Alfredo Griffin, Mickey Hatcher, & Mike Scioscia. They were playing Dodger ball down the 405.
