Callaspo is better? Obviously YOU haven't looked at the numbers.

Besides this, from MLBTradeRumors: "The 28-year-old Headley has hit .269/.373/.415 with seven homers and eight steals this season. The switch-hitter quietly owns a career .300/.366/.444 batting line away from Petco Park and his defense at the hot corner is well-regarded. FanGraphs says he's been the 13th most valuable position player in baseball this season at 3.0 wins above replacement, or WAR."

Callaspo doesn't even show up on the list of 3Bmen:

He may be better than Callaspo but how much are you willing to give up for that upgrade? A top prospect(s)? They did say they wanted a lot. Also NL numbers are skewed high, imho.

And the Angel switch hitter hit 309/368/436 away from Anaheim last year. Since Callaspo stopped splitting time, he's hitting how he typically hits.. 300/400/450 over the last four weeks.

Also, the parks in the AL West are harder to hit in than parks in the NL West.

Be sure not to let data get in the way of your opinion.

Just to add about Callaspo
2008 305/361/371
2009 300/356/457
2010 hurt wrist
2011 288/366/375

This year Scioscia messed with Callaspo with the 3rd base fiasco, but he's hitting now.

So how much better is Headley?

I agree that on paper, both defensively, and offensively, they are close.

Where Headly is an upgrade - in MY opinion - is the stats that chicks dig, like HRs, RBIs, stolen bases, age, and height.

Headly would be an upgrade - especially over the STUPID platoon of Callaspo & Izturis. ( Where neither one of them gets proper playing time, because of Scioscia's numbskull penchant for trying - Unsuccessfully, I must add - to keep each of them "fresh".)

As long as either one of Callaspo or Izturis is also traded - not necessarily for Headly, but more likely for relief help - than Headly should be a welcome compliment to the team.

We agree that Headley is an upgrade. Probably not huge, probably not significant, but measurable. Which means it can be measured. It's not going to be a six of one or half dozen of the other. Headly will like be a little better.

We agree our 2012 Angels would be a better team if we could get Headley for minor league players.

We agree that Scioscia needs to put a third basemen out there and keep him there.

I would much rather agree with you then disagree with you.

Wouldn't it be great if we could both just stop the name calling? I'll start. I will not call you a name again. If I call you a name, you can call me a liar.

PS.. A liar is about the worse thing you can call someone. If I can't hold my tongue under that penalty, then I can't hold my tongue under any penalty.

" Callaspo doesn't even show up on the list of 3Bmen: "

What a tool you are! He doesn't show up because he doesn't have the qualified number of PA's. Change your filter to "170" min PA and he shows up. Granted he's down the list presently but I see that as a reflection of reduced playing time. You use that argument quite a bit about other players.

Further, if you change your filter to 2011 you'll see Callaspo was better than Headly last year when they both played regularly. Callaspo had the best dWAR in the league last year.

Headly IS NOT a significant upgrade over Callaspo. They are pretty even.

Even if Headley was a significant upgrade over Callaspo, we arent flush in any area of our organization that we could afford to give up much. I value Segura and Calhoun's potential over Headley. We wont sign Callaspo next year and we probably wont sign Hunter, either. So, both of them will fit in our 25 man roster very soon.

I say stay the course. AND FRICKIN PLAY CALLASPO EVERY DAY!!!!!!!

"Also, the parks in the AL West are harder to hit in than parks in the NL West. "

Petco
AT&T
Doyer Stadium

All three are some of the toughest parks in baseball to hit in, with petco arguably the toughest. Our division is difficult as well, Angel stadium, oakland, seattle all very pitcher favorable. But I think the NL West is even tougher.

We were talking about Headly vs Callaspo.

Arizona, Colorado, San Francisco, Dodger Stadium vs.
Safeco, Oakland, Texas.

Advantage, Headly.

No, that's Chase HeadlEy, not Headly! Headly is Headly Lamar. Not to be confused with Heady Lamar, of course.

<<<Also, the parks in the AL West are harder to hit in than parks in the NL West. >>>

Petco is a notorious pitcher's park. No way that any AL West park is harder to hit in than Petco. Dodger Stadium certainly is not a hitter's park either.

Neither is the ballpark in San Francisco.

Did people miss that we were talking about road splits?

Petco is his home park. Anaheim is Callaspo's home park.

Should I explain that further?

Headley is under team control for a couple more years.

Ask yourself the question: "Does that mean Angels keep Callaspo all that time?"

Caleb Cowart is in High-A ball and he is the lone 3B prospect yet there is no guarantee against injury or even being over his head as he goes to AA.

Callaspo is about 6" shorter than Headley...laugh all you want but this is an important stat for getting to balls around 3B, Callaspo misses many grounders by just a few inches...with Headley at 3B those balls would be ROUTINE PLAYS.

Headley is a better glove than Callaspo all around and a better hitter. A HUGE improvement.

To go with Callaspo for this season and into the future is bad judgment especially with a payroll like this. Counterproductive.

Short guys DO NOT RULE at the corner infield positions...a fact of life.

Doesn't seem to be a problem right now. Looks like Callaspo/Izturis platoon is working. Keeps Izturis from getting injured. Would love to have Headley at thirdbase, but not necessary, and wouldn't trade the farm to get him.

Doesn't seem to be a problem because we are not seeing Headley's coverage at 3B. When Callaspo cannot reach a ball because his reach is 8-10 inches shorter those balls are called hits.

Headley would make plays that is IMPOSSIBLE for Callaspo to even come close. Callaspo has to dive at balls to his left or right..Headley would make those plays standing up and routine.

Headley would hit 20+ HRs once he is settled in with Angels.

To think there are no options to Callaspo means he stays here at 3B for at least THREE MORE YEARS in best case scenario.

Callaspo IS NOT A REAL 3Bman...he never can be...it's the way things are in life and baseball. Corner infielders are a LIABILITY at 5' 8"....that's not just an opinion...it's FACT.

For a stat-oriented fan you show how locked-in you are in numbers alone.

There is no stat for balls a player cannot reach only stats for balls he touches or gloves. Callaspo cannot get to a lot of balls and has to stretch into dives...this should be a stat but it isn't. That is why stats alone are incomplete.

Headley is a tier better than Callaspo...no comparison.
