No, we haven't gotten the guy yet. Given the amount of time that's passed, it's a virtual certainty that it is indeed someone who was drafted last year; otherwise it's highly unlikely they would have waited this long, it's going on three full months now.

Is the rule such that a player can be traded one year after he is drafted or is it one year after the player is actually signed?

My understanding was when he signed.

"My understanding was when he signed"

Well if that is the case then the longer we have to wait before the PTNBL is named the better. All of KC's top 5 picks except one signed on 8/15/2011....the other one signed on 8/1/2011. Most of those drafted after #5 signed did so in June....only a few of exceptions.

It is indeed signed. So if the guy was drafted but didn't sign until sometime in August, we have a ways to go yet. Bryan Bickhouse, for example since people were speculating it might be him, didn't sign until August 15th. So it could be another two months.

What's the story on Brickhouse, he hasn't played this year?

Probably in extended spring training. Once short season ball starts up in a couple of weeks, I'll bet he starts pitching. Similar to the Adrian Houser situation.

What I don't get is what happens if the player gets hurt, while still a part of the Royals organization. I guess I'm assuming we have a short list of players we can choose potentially.

Yes, a PTBNL will always be one of a list of ususally around 3-5, maybe six, different players. If the top guy you want gets hurt, you can still take him of course (you wouldn't just suddenly not want a good prospect anymore if they just pulled a hammy or something), or you can pick another guy off the list instead.

I have a feeling the PTBNL is Starling. lol. If it was, I would say Jeff would need to get a raise. BTW this was a joke for people who don't know.

I'm glad you put that last sentence in there. More like the Royals GM would need to be drawn and quartered.

No too bad at all. Two legit prospects for two aging backups that we simply didn't need. Seriously, think about it; at the time, the only gripe that anyone had was that Bourgeois was good for depth, and now look; we can't even find consistent playing time for all our OFs. Another great move by Luhnow.
