thanks , I would love the chance to manage a big league team, even if I hate the Dodgers.

Why so down on Mattingly? Many people feel that he is one of the best young managers in the game. What he was able to do with the crappy team last year says it all.

Mattingly seems to have gone to the Tommy Lasorda school of managing (I know he didn't, he just has the same lack of managerial skills).... and while Lasorda is a personality (Mattingly isn't), he wasn't a good manager. The main thing I remember about Lasorda was that he left pitchers that were obviously "done" in the game too long... like 4-6 runs scored or 2-3 innings, until the game was out of reach to make a comeback. Scioscia does this too to a certain extent, but nowhere near as bad as Lasorda.

No argument here my friend. I am one of the few Dodgers fans that thinks Tommy is full of it. In fact, he shortened the careers of a few great Dodgers by overusing them (Orel, Fernando). With Torre, we had a guy that was notorious for overusing his bullpen and did damage a few guys in the process (Proctor, Wade, Kuo). Mattingly the other day went and got Capuano out before the 5th inning was over. At that time. capuano had the lead and was in line for the victory. Alot of folks got upset but I thought it was the right move considering how early it is in the season and the fact Capuano had reached his pitch limit. I was not a big Mattingly fan when he was anointed the owner (I preffered Tim Wallach) but I have been pleasantly surprised at how well he has done with what has been given to him. The young players have alot of respect for the guy. In all honesty, I prefer his demeanor to Tommy's.

I posted earlier that I am not a Lasorda fan and that I think he is full of it. I lost alot of respect for the guy because I have seen him be rude to fans and because he supported McCourt. The guy is all about himself. I had more respect for Torre and have become a big fan of Mattingly. The others I have seen are not worthy of me even mentioning them.

Hi Ray.
I don't know who mentioned Gibson as being part of the Lasorda school, but he clearly was not.
3 years is all he spent in LA.
The Lasorda School put out Dumbsty Baker and Mensa Mike Scioscia...both of them have no clue how to utilize a pitching staff, and both of them are way too loyal to aging and useless veterans.
Lucky for Gibson he wasn't around Lasorda long enough to pick up any of the true Lasorda traits, because like you, I think Lasorda was a numbskull of the highest degree.

Thanks for your honesty about Lasorda. To this guy (me) is the equivalent of a used car salesman. I remember in the mid-90's he talk up the LAD and Karros, Mondesi,Piazza (I did agree with him on MP), Hollandsworth and other current ROY on the team until it was just annoying. I new the Angels of the mid-90's were going to win the WS before Lasordas buffoons. I even told my many family members that were LAD fans and they just laughed at me.

Lasorda will endorse anyone who will give him a paycheck. He supported McCourt!

Remember his restaurant ...failure!

"Seriously, who would want Mattingly? He is a buffoon."

Sorry, Pal. You're WAY too late on the "BUFFOON" franchise.

Mike Scioscia became the poster guy for buffoons, many years ago.

Probably with the decision to call a suicide squeeze, in a crucial game, with a LH batter at the plate.
