Complete games were the norm thru the 70's. Mostly 7 or 8 innings minimum. INNINGS...NOT pitch counts. Those days are long gone. Even now, high school, college and minors, they all have 1, 2, or 3 out lefty vs righty specialty, etc. relievers...MONEY drives the teams to protect the arms of the few starters remaining. They are taught only to be throwers, not pitchers. Not too many Cains or Madbums around.
Look at the most recent hall of Fame pitchers and their complete games. We never expected LESS than 8+ innings from ANY pitcher.
