But for some lousy pitching and errors aplenty, Boise would be tearing that league apart. There are many good hitting prospects on the Bears, ones who really rake but with pitiful pitching Boise has a losing record, 30-35. Pitching is the bane of this organization no matter what the level...**sigh**

Oops re: Wells and DeWitt.

Cardenas is remotely interesting. He, like DeWitt, has torn it up in the minors but not in the bigs. There's no spot for him on the team outside of utility infielder, but his defense is pretty bad.

Szczur struggled when moved to Daytona last year as well. He is keeping up a good walk rate. No reason to panic unless you are just a hater.

I was wondering why Kyle Hendricks is rated for the back end or the rotation. Two of my favorite pitchers from Cubs history (Greg Maddux& Rick Reuschel) did not have astonishing fastballs but became very good pitchers. Kyle Hendricks seems to have better stats then those two did when they were in the minor leagues. Could someone assist in enlightening me?

Szczur moved up a level and has struggled so far at AA. He did fine in Daytona so "dropping like a ton of bricks" is a bit of a stretch.

Who are you saying called him a can't miss? Boy are you ever listening to the wrong guys! He is an ex football player who is working on his game. He is very fast, athletic but nowhere near can't miss. Although he has shown plenty of raw talent he is a ways away and probably more of a fringe player unless things really start to click with him.
Can't miss? No. You've been taken in, my friend.

While Maddux and Reuschel never had blazing fastballs, they did throw harder than people remember when they first came up. Maddux was a consistent 91-92 guy early in his career and Reuschel had a hard sinker.

Hendricks doesn't throw as hard as either one.

I think a big worry is that as he progresses higher, the numbers won't be nearly as good.

**But for some lousy pitching and errors aplenty, Boise would be tearing that league apart.**

**with pitiful pitching Boise has a losing record, 30-35. Pitching is the bane of this organization no matter what the level...**sigh**

There is something to that. Boise not only has the youngest position-player roster in the NW League, but the only one averaging under 20 years old (19.8). This probably explains why they tend to be more mistake-prone and impatient. Defensively they have committed the second most errors. Offensively, they have walked the fewest times, are not very successful at stealing bases, and have the 3rd most Ks.

But Boise also has real offensive talent and has the numbers to show it. With this young roster, Boise leads the league in runs scored, runs per game, team batting average, hits, XBH, triples, home runs, total bases, SLG% and OPS. They are a close second in doubles, probably because Amaya seems to have a way of turning doubles into triples.

Pitching for Boise is still a problem. They have the 3rd youngest pitching staff with the 2nd highest ERA, the highest WHIP and the most runs scored against. Manager Mark Johnson said before the season began that starting pitching might be OK, but the bullpen could be a problem. That prediction has held up, even though the bullpen has gotten some help in the second half.

Cardenas has hardly enough playing time to discount him already.

This kid Jeffry Antigua pitched well today for Peoria (ERA 1.92) and seem to pitched well at TN (ERA 3.82). Why was he demoted? Did he get hurt and need work?
