Like I said, he's nowhere near the player Ryno was.
My point in using him is he's a guy that improved once he was in the majors and his minor league stats had not been overwhelming.
A poster in this thread said he WILL NOT IMPROVE because his minor league stats indicate he won't ......thats a load of cr*p to say thats certain.

Again, I'm not claiming Barney to be an all star , or even our future at 2b , just saying I'll give him another year before I even attempt to make a judgement on him.

Not a huge difference in age and my point was players can improve off minor league stats.
My whole point was trying to prove a guy near or in his mid 20's career isn't already set because of what his minor league numbers had been.

I think Barney could improve his batting average and maybe some doubles power, and he could steal you 10-15 bases , he's never going to hit for any real power or be an all star .

2 years is a huge difference at that age. Ryno was dominating AA at the same age that Barney was struggling along in A ball.

Like I said , my point wasn't to compare them, I know he'll never approach what Ryno was.
My point in using Ryno was you can't determine what a guy will be off his minor league numbers and players in their mid 20's actually CAN improve off what their career minor league path was showing.
I just threw Ryno's rookie line up there because in those three categories they are very similar, thought that was interesting.
I know they had always said Ryno will develope power, Barney is a definate no in that aspect.

Ryno's path was showing much better than you are giving him credit for.

No, he really didn't. His AA year showed MUCH MORE than Barney ever has at ANY level.

Again not saying he's the second coming.
Just saying I personally have to give ANY player atleast 2-3 seasons before I can say he can't improve from what he did as a rookie, no matter what age he is.

It is VERY unlikely that he will be much better than what he was as a minor league player.

The age curve is real. The idea that there are several players that have defied it simply isn't true.

An .872 OPS at age 20 in AA? Yes, that is dominating. Name me all the players that were doing that at age 20.

It could be the case, I personally don't ever say that after just a rookie season and minor league numbers.
Like I said I'm not even saying he's our future at 2b.
I don't see him doing anything more than maybe some more doubles, maybe a better average and increasing his SB totals.
He's a decent defender and a pretty good baserunner and shows some actual baseball smarts, something this team could use more of.
I wish he'd hit with a little more authority, that would be nice but to me he's servicable until something better comes along.

I would say we move on as soon as possible.
