1:40 am and still no power on the fifth hole at Evergreen C.C.. I fortunately have a basement and a generator that I have used to back-feed my electrical panel to sparingly select the most needed circuits. (fridge, freezer, ceiling fans.)

Even with my handyman skills this house is still sweltering above the basement level as we approach 2:00 am. My wife and I are both fine however there is reason to fear for the elderly and the sick that don't have the amenities of a basement and a fan as we have. I sure hope this story doesn't get any uglier.

Check on your elderly neighbors. .......... hey, wait a minute. :-(

CeeNats, you're a mind reader ! I was just telling my wife how much I enjoy our wooden chandeliers she bought from the "charming and hearty little town" of Occoquan. ;-)

Power is still out on my street only effecting 14 homes. That likely means we won't get power until the streets and developments with 15 or more homes are taken care of.
If this is the worse thing that happens this year it will be one heck of a year. :-)

Well, my street is blocked-off properly now with lots of yellow police tape and cones after I called Pepco, and at their suggestion, 911. The blockage starts at the far side of my driveway, leaving me completely unaffected. People kept driving right through the thin blue plastic 'DANGER' tape three houses down from mine on the other side of where the power lines were ripped-off the pole when the tree in the yard across the street fell across the wires serving their house. The people running through the tape would then drive right over the live wires in the street, causing quite a bit of the Rice Krispies effect: Snap, Crackle, and Pop along with their cousin Sparky taking center stage. These inattentive drivers would then stop when they got to the more noticeable yellow police tape on my side of the blockade, stop, turn around or throw it in reverse, and then drive back over the live wires again. Every time this happened, the power in the other two houses on my side of the street getting power from the same pole would have their power bounce up and down... They weren't happy.

Still no joy in Oakton, no juice as of 12:30 PM. It was 88 in my living room at midnight, so I retreated to the basement and slept fitfully. I'm now in the lobby of a different Marriott, watching golf - no MASN here - and bumming internet access and ice.

I passed a Dominion work crew in Reston, so they are out there. I was really angry last night though, half of my neighborhood had power restored, but not my half.

What ever a DERECHO is, I never want to see one again....Best wishes to those of you still struggling through the results of this weather event. Now I know, albeit to very small extent, the h3ll those poor folks in Katrina went through. You never know until you walk in a persons shoes how the lack of modern convenience, changes your day to day.

POWER RESTORED!!! NATS ON THE FLAT SCREEN!

GOOO NATS!!!

Dave, just so you know those wires are likely 12,500 volt feeders. The hair on your arm will normally stand up at about 30 feet away and in this humidity I certainly wouldn't get within 10 feet of downed power lines, they have been known to jump / arch many feet to take a life. 480 volt light pole feeders killed three people at the Pentagon a few years back as they kept walking into an energized puddle of water to save the first person electrocuted.

Those people you are talking about have no idea the risk they are taking. :-(

She does seem to have an electro magnetic field surrounding her that makes the hair on your arm as well as other things stand up from many feet away.

Don't get too close uncle Rich, she might just put a hurtin' on ya. :-)))

The only good thing in this situation is being a Nats fan in Connecticut, but I feel for you guys. We lost power twice; the first time when Irene blew through here in August and then a freak snow storm in October.

The electricity is back on at my place, as of 5:00 PM or so. Good thing, I was starting to get in a mood to go looting or something.

So, I have Friday night's game - up until 10:26 PM - on the DVR, and I missed Stras's trek through the desert yesterday and the game today. That stinks.

Friday, I was in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where it was over 100 degrees. In the morning, there was a line of vicious tunderstorms that swept across that part of the island and knocked out the power and air conditioning. The heat was hard to take, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. When I got back to BWI, it was 100 degrees here too, and as I was driving home across the Wilson Bridge I was just in time to encounter a line of vicious thunder storms that knocked out the power and air conditing. Clearly, the weather gods meant for me to be hot all day.
