Power means nothing with nobody on base and speed neither.....Pitching is the last thing they need if you're comparing it to actual team needs... They need a 4 hitter who can hit the gaps and become far more clutch than what they have now...

I have always been impressed by Vlad. He is a professional hitter to be sure.
But, I can't imagine him in the NL at this point in his career. Pitt is the most run needy team in baseball, so they might take a chance on him...maybe.

I like the call on Dempster for the Reds. The Reds are living and dying with pitching. As they go down to the wire, they are facing three teams with better pitching (Washington, Pitt, LAD) and St Louis is not far behind.

I say forget the aging sluggers, open the wallet, and go with more solid pitching.

I haven't looked into his contract details but he may have had one of those clauses where if he wasn't called up by a certain date then they'd have to release him.
