The coaching change may do him some good, as the staff at AAA has failed to address his issues, but I think the major leagues is the only place where he is going to develop into the player we need.

I do see your reasoning. Snider needs help seeing/recognizing breaking balls and the thin PCL air doesn't give you many good ones. Travis needs to be here. You know what Eric Thames offers and it is a more known/less desirable commodity than what Snider offers.

Or, say the player that the Mets need...

If Snider got off to a start like Thames has with his offense and defense so far this year , he would already be back in the minors by now.

Snider had one Knock against him and that was his K's. Now Thames has two knocks so far this season he hasn't hit and he hasn't played good defense, and has had trouble . Maybe he could learn from AAA on how to run down flyballs and taking the proper path to get to one, or hit the cutoff man like he should.

I am dreading when Thames has to play with the green monster and how many extra basehits the Red Sox hitters might get off of him. It's like you have to hold your breath when a ball is hit to Left Field, and that's why he needs a defensive replacement if things get close.

Let's hope Thames improves and his stock improves so he can be traded.

Agree Snider's ceiling is higher. But it is not clear at all how likely he is to achieve it...

But if he's going to be in the minors, AA could be a better spot for him. Looking at his past AA numbers, there are trends there that are much more accurate reflections of what he does at the big league level. I think we would learn a lot more about any progress, or lack thereof, in AA.

"P.S. Don't let the trolls like Dinger get to ya. They do it to me too, it's like they think their own opinion is the only one that matters."

Not trying to showboat my ignore list like him, but he's actually the only person on my ignore list right now. I'll probably take him off at some point though.

It's not a bad thought, but here is the pattern that I have noticed with Snider.

Sometimes he is mashing AAA, and sometimes he struggles even at that level.
When he is crushing AAA and promoted, he continues that success at the MLB level for awhile.

But after a month or so, he deteriorates.
I think this is partly due to pitchers adjusting to him, but also partly because he gets away from the things he has learned in AAA, and DM does not seem to be a good fit for him.

If there was a way to have Mottola up in MLB with him, I think he could find sustained success at that level.

Some people fear debate and difference of opinion more than death itself.

Yeah, having Mottola up has been mentioned by some fans. Actually I think some people want him as the MLB hitting coach once DM gets the boot. Normally I'd say he just can't adjust to MLB pitching, which I still believe to some extent, but it does seem like his approach (not even just his results) is alright when he comes up, and then falls down the toilet.

I'm not really sure how Murphy goes about his business but I think everyone agrees that he is more of a philosophical hitting coach than technical (although I'm sure he does both). Maybe that works better with veteran players or something, but Snider is definitely a guy who needs to make technical swing adjustments at the MLB level. There's a good chance Mottola is much stronger than Murphy at that IMO.

I think there might be better fastballs in AA but lesser development of the off speed stuff and less control. Snider might be more likely to have the AAA pitchers successfully pitch to his weakness (scounting report) than in AA.

"The coaching change may do him some good, as the staff at AAA has failed to address his issues"

How true do you think this is? By no means am I bashing DM but in my opinion Snider has a decent approach for a while every time he comes up and then really starts getting fooled and striking out more. There could be a lot of causes for this, but it makes me wonder if he needs continual swing adjustments which Murphy may not be as qualified for seeing as Snider's swing isn't an easy fix when he's off.

I should add that it might not be that bad of an idea to get another coach give him a look, so I agree sending him down to AA might not be an awful idea.

That's a breakfast of champions if I've ever seen one.

Extra point to consider for sure. There's much better eating in Las vegas than there is in Manchester NH...

Unless the Mets are going to give us Wheeler or Harvey for Snider, they have absolutely nothing of interest.
