    • Mastroianni...Thoughts??

He leaves a trail of fire on the basepaths when going from second to home. And he has done it twice on this road trip in crucial situations.

He's a fantastic bench player that's for sure and seems to be capable of playing once or twice a week.

One of the best things I like about Mastroianni is he can steal bases and he isn't reluctant too. He feels it is his job to keep moving around the bases.

Anyone tell Span about that this is his job as well.

He had is issues running the bases a year or so ago (2010 I think)...he is very gun shy about stealing bases. In away I would like Revere leading off because when Revere hits #2 and Span's on base he drops anchor and nobody moves. A year ago I wouldn't have considered that at all. But the way Revere is getting on base..don't get in his way.

I was completely wrong on Revere. I bashed his weak arm more than anybody on this board, but I've got to admit he has helped set a fire under this team since his call up. Ben Revere rocks, in my humble opinion.

I'm glad Morneau has regained some of his form as of late. I was pretty harsh on him too. Justin is the man once again.

I've even liked Carroll a bit lately. My apologies for all the disgusting, humiliating things I've said about him this season. He is fundamentally sound.

But I'm a tad disappointed in Nishi. Poor guy. I think he's already been bashed enough. I think it's time to make an obvious decision on him and the quicker the better. Just hope he doesn't jump off a bridge.

I am still not fully won over by Revere. He still has his poor arm, plays slightly out of position sometimes and still makes mistakes when he as at the plate. But, as long as he keeps finding ways to get on base it dampens the rest of the problems.

I am just waiting to see when the opponents finally start to play him like they did last year taking away the short bloop hits that drop in front of the outfielders and playing him in in the infield to take away the slow ground ball hits.

In the meantime, I guess I could live with him in the lineup. As I mentioned I do like him on the bases more than Span...at least Revere seems to want to steal a base...though I think he should be taking more chances than he has...how are you going to learn if you don't attempt the steal?

If span gets out leading off though, and revere gets on, it opens up Revere taking 2nd to keep mauer out of the DP, which he was having issues with until Revere came up and started stealing 2nd all the time.. So i don't mind the order where it is.

Revere could drop like a rock just like Lew Ford did. I have seen many a young player start off with a bang or have a strong season only to be out of baseball within five years. If he does succeed he will have beaten the odds. My only hope is that the Twins don't fall head over heels for his style and go mindlessly looking for 'the next Ben Revere'

there's been like a million times where Revere was on 1st...Mauer was up...and Revere stayed right at first when 2B was open. Whether that's Revere's decision not to go (unlikely) or Gardy's (much more likely), it is what it is.

Maybe revere got bored from stealing second every other time and he would rather watch the game from first base for once! Y U JUDGE HIM BRO?!?!

Mastroianni has done a great job as the 4th outfielder. Wouldn't mind keeping him around.

Just as long as Gardy keeps him as what he should be: the 4th outfielder. He doesn't appear to be an every day player. Late game defensive sub? Yes. Pinch runner? Yes. Guy to pencil into the lineup when one of your OF's needs a day off? Yes. Full time starter? No.

Maybe...but Revere isn't stealing that much either. Where Span drops anchor and blocks Revere, at least Revere is or trying to learn the pitchers...but a speedster like Revere should have twice as many stolen bases. Especially since he's been here all year. He steals bases in spurts...a few here and a few there. He has 27 SB in 105 times on base. I subtracted the doubles and triples because of the usual lack of steal in those situations. There is no reason Revere shouldn't be in the 40s for SB...that's his game.

But this lineup won't change unless Span leaves.

Mauer needs to start getting the ball OVER the infielder's instead of through the infield...that would have taken care of some of those GIDPs.

Detroit started playing Revere during this series like most teams played him last year...short outfield. The few balls he hits to gaps aren't that significant when you can cut off those shallow base hits.
